I have known Judge James Daley since I was a 9-year-old boy growing up in Brodhead. As a classmate of Judge Daley's children, I saw James Daley elected DA, appointed judge and rise through the ranks of the Wisconsin National Guard.
Judge Daley has never backed away from a challenge and running for the Wisconsin Supreme Court is another example. His life is a testament to his willingness to take any challenge and make the most of it. He served with distinction in the Marine Corps, earning the Bronze Star for Valor in Vietnam where he also earned a Purple Heart. He continued to challenge himself going to college Carol College in Waukesha and then as a 30-"something" attending law school at Marquette, the entire time supporting a wife and four daughters. While in school, Judge Daley enlisted in the Wisconsin National Guard as a sergeant, eventually rising to the rank of Brigadier General. Judge Daley has shown he is willing to take on any type of challenge and not just overcome those challenges, but excel.
Judge Daley been a judicial innovator creating the first veteran's court in our state, a model that has been replicated throughout Wisconsin. I have seen Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, including a personal friend, have their lives turned around because of the veteran's court Judge Daley created. As a combat veteran himself, he knew of the many resources to help our at-risk-veterans. Without this court, those veterans would have continued down a path of no return. Don't mistake this as Judge Daley giving veterans a free pass. As a veteran himself, Judge Daley knows how to talk to vets in language they understand, letting them know he will hold them accountable for their actions should they fail to live up to the strict requirements of the veteran's court.
I relay these stories of the man I have known my entire life because the people of Wisconsin need to know that Judge Daley is a man of integrity, a man of principle, strong moral conviction, loyal to those he has sworn to protect, and he is a without a doubt a patriot in every sense of the word. Judge Daley takes his responsibilities seriously, he excels at everything he does and will make a great addition to the Wisconsin Supreme Court. He is a fine jurist and a great legal mind.
