It has been almost two years since our mother, Katie Evenstad, passed away at Lafayette Manor. She was a resident there for six years with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. During that time our mom received the best care anyone could ever ask for. As she could not speak for herself, she relied on the staff to meet her every need. Our family has the utmost respect for the Lafayette Manor and the wonderful caregivers who work there. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the meals are wonderful and the care and concern given to every resident is heartwarming. It was truly our "home away from home."
As our family visited daily, we witnessed firsthand the love that was shown to the residents. The staff treated each resident with love and respect. Until you personally need nursing care for your loved one, you may not fully appreciate the services provided at Lafayette Manor. Many people may not realize that Lafayette Manor provides adult day care for individuals unable to care for themselves. This service provides respite for family members, and also gives the individual the opportunity to be taken care of in a safe and nurturing atmosphere. Our family utilized the adult day care service for our mom several times a month until she became a resident. During her day visits, she participated in church services, music, bingo and many other various activities. She also received wonderful meals, a place to rest and skilled nursing when necessary. The routine of day care provided a smooth transition for our mom and our family when the time came for Lafayette Manor to become her home.
Even though our daily visits have come to a close, our appreciation and gratitude for the staff, services and the facility itself has not diminished. We will always have a warm place in our hearts for Lafayette Manor. As the fourth Annual Lafayette Manor Auxiliary Cookout approaches on Wednesday, Sept. 25, please consider joining us in celebrating the good work of the Manor staff and Auxiliary, as well as the generous contributions from individuals throughout Lafayette County for the care of all those who call it home.
