Monroe

To the editor:

After seeing all the buzz these last few weeks about Kraft Oscar Mayer closing their plant and leaving Madison got me thinking about our situation here in Monroe. The loss of more than 1,000 jobs is a tremendous blow to a community of any size and the negative impact of so many surrounding businesses will probably cause some to close their doors as well. The Oscar Mayer closing and ripple effect is a devastating loss to Madison and to the state of Wisconsin.

What would happen to Monroe and our surrounding communities if Colony Brands, Inc. would ever make the decision to leave Monroe? Not only does Colony Brands, Inc. employ probably more people than any other business in the area, they are perhaps the most giving, generous, socially responsible company in the area. I find the list of giving by Colony Brands, Inc. to be almost unlimited. Everything from a donation to helping preschools to raising funds for cancer research and everything in between.

I believe Monroe and the surrounding area owe a huge debt of gratitude to the Kubly families, John Baumann and Colony Brands, Inc. for all they contribute to the economic and social well being of our community. Madison will survive the loss of a company. Would we? Thank you, Colony Brands.
