Lee seeks support in 2nd Congressional race

To the editor:

At the beginning of this year, I announced my candidacy for the 2nd Congressional District. As I've traveled throughout the district, a number of people have asked me why I decided to run for Congress, particularly as a Republican in a traditionally Democrat-leaning area.

I decided to run for Congress because I am deeply concerned about the direction in which our nation is headed and the lack of action that has been taken to prevent a total economic collapse. We need to get spending under control by working towards a balanced budget; we need to provide our small business community with the flexibility that it needs to create jobs, rather than excessive regulations; and we need to work harder toward energy independence. These are just a few of the solutions I believe we need to help restore our great nation.

Unlike the career politicians - including my opponent - who put our nation at such great risk financially and economically, I'm not running for office to "be someone" and advance my political career. I'm running for office in order to serve my country and offer the skills I developed in the private sector to help get our nation back on track and get our unemployed friends and neighbors back to work. As a small business owner, I know what it takes to maintain a balanced budget in order to stay in business and create jobs. It's time Washington learned the basics of running a business in order to better manage our country.

I don't want to wake up on Nov. 7 and wish I had done more to help restore this nation and ensure that the opportunities we have today will still be there tomorrow for our children and grandchildren. It's time we return to the tradition of electing "citizen legislators" who will put the American people ahead of the special interests. That's why I'm running for Congress and why I hope to earn your vote on Nov. 6. Thank you.
