Jeremy Pink: My cat might be gay
Placeholder Image
I have a cat named Mona. She is a girl. And while I am not sure if she likes boy cats or not, I assume that she does. However, recent events surrounding the issue of gay marriage made me think that it's possible Mona likes girl cats.

I mean, she IS a good-looking cat, save for that little ponch she's got going (we're working on it), so maybe she perceives other female cats the same way I perceive her. Maybe my cat's gay.

Initially I didn't know what to make of this. To me, girl cats were always with boy cats (and they both hated dogs). But then again, our modern household is no longer segregated dog and non-dog. Mona coexists with a dog every day, and I'd even say they're friends. So maybe all of my definitions are a little outdated. It's best that I evolve.

Because one day Mona may start bringing other girl cats home with her, into our bedroom. Maybe they'll just want to bat the ball around or lay on my dirty laundry, or maybe they'll want to do...other stuff. I'm not sure what that other stuff is for a gay cat couple, because I'm not really sure what it is for a straight cat couple. I'm not entirely sure Mona even has sexual organs. As far as I can tell, she's all fur.

Anyway, maybe she'll meet another girl cat that makes her life better, and she stops lying around the house all day licking herself and putting holes in my bed sheets. Sure, it's something to do, Mona, but it's not living.

And if this hypothetical girl cat makes her happy, I'm happy. And I hope my friends and family are cool with it too. It's possible that I might have a friend over and they see Mona with a girl cat, and I'll be like "Yeah, that's Mona's girlfriend." And my friend will be all "girlfriend?" And I'll be like "Yeah, my cat's gay." It may take some getting used to, but my friends and family loved sexually ambiguous Mona and I'm confident they'll be cool with gay Mona.

Actually, I can't see a reason why anyone wouldn't be OK with it. Mona's not hurting anybody (except when she paws at you through the door). Besides, with so many heterosexual cat relationships ending in divorce, why can't my gay cat be with the feline she loves? Maybe she can do gay cat love better than others do straight cat love or, hell, straight human love.

Regardless, she deserves that chance and all possible opportunities, because she's a good cat.
