The Monroe Jaycees would like to thank the community for its past support. The Monroe Jaycees have been an important part of the community's history - in empowering leaders, building parks, serving brats at Cheese Days, ice cream at the Balloon Rally, sponsoring the Halloween Parade, and filling kids' sandboxes.
The membership in the chapter has slowly declined over the years as people find more and more ways to be involved in the community and their children's lives. Consequently, we have closed the Monroe chapter.
Many projects and fundraisers have been handed over to willing and quite capable groups. The ice cream stand at the Balloon Rally is being run by MASE (Monroe Area Skating Enthusiasts). The brat stand at Cheese Days is headed by Rebel Soccer. Monroe Main Street now sponsors the Halloween Parade on Oct. 31. Punt, Pass, and Kick, a football skills competition held in the fall, will be run by the Boy Scouts Troop 101. Finally, two scholarships are annually given each spring through the Southern Wisconsin Community Foundation endowment, so they will still be provided for many years into the future.
Unfortunately, we have not been successful finding a group to take on our Sandbox Day. This was usually held on a Saturday in May. If a group is interested in taking this community project on, they can contact Tonya at 325-2100.
The final checking account balance was $8,600 to disperse to community agencies and groups. Through member consensus, five were chosen and donations amounts discussed. Monroe Park and Recreation Department received $4,000 for after school programming. Sexual Assault Recovery Program (SARP) accepted $1,500. We gave Big Brothers Big Sisters of Green County $1,000. The Monroe Public Library received a donation of $500. And the balance was given to United Way of Green County.
There are lots of businesses that we are forever indebted to for helping make our projects a success. In recent years for Sandbox Day, those who donated time, materials or equipment were: Green Valley Redi Mix, Double G Concrete, Alphorn Ford, Bowen Oil, Monroe Construction, The Swiss Colony, Monroe Lumber, Monroe Truck, and Bruni Miller.
