In your "Our View" column of Sept. 12, you make such a big deal out of voters having to show proper identification to vote. You're right, it is a big deal. Whether you are Democrat, Republican or independent, don't you want the election to be fair? After all, are we not all Americans?
We know we have had our share of voter fraud and registration problems in this state in the past - false documentation, voting multiple times and other problems, mostly in the big cities. Why do such a small number of people make such a fuss about having to show ONE form of legal identification to vote? The majority favor it, whether it is a driver's license, a state I.D. or any other form of legal identification. We have to show and I.D. to get married, get a driver's license, start a bank account, cash a check, etc. But not to vote? Seems kind of strange that we need proof of who we are to do those things, but to vote for our country's, state or local leaders, we don't? There is so much fraud out in today's society that I think we would want people to have to show who they are.
So, it shouldn't matter who you're voting for, or what party affiliation, voting is a privilege of our freedom and it should be held in higher regard than it is by some. This should be a non-issue. We should want true and honest voting.
