Foster Care Coordinator, Children Youth and Families Unit, Green County Human Services
To the editor:
In the last several years, the children who have entered foster care and relative (kinship) foster care has increased. In order to help them out during the holidays and throughout the year, Apparitions M.C., ABATE Region 8D of Green County has a fundraiser to raise money and get presents for the holidays and birthdays.
The money raised has helped our foster care children in Green County and we hope to continue this. We have been able to help foster families in the costs of transportation of foster children to their appointments, regular and summer school fees. This money also helps with fees for school field trips, helping the foster children so that they can participate in various school and extracurricular activities, and school field trips, respite for our families in Green County, along with helping our youth that age out of foster care get set up to live on their own, holding an appreciation picnic for our foster families and to host a Foster Care Holiday Party for our foster parents.
We are getting ready for our 2012 Gifts that Foster Hope fundraiser scheduled for Dec. 1, 2012 from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Monroe Den and will be looking for donations of raffle and auction items, and gifts for the youth in care (ages 0 to 17). We hope to have another successful year in helping our foster children have a great holiday. We will be having a raffle, live auction and door prizes as well as a band (Nikovtyme) playing from 8 p.m. to midnight.
If you are willing and/or interested in donating this year, please contact me, Angela Wardlow at (608) 328-9313 or awardlow@gchsd.org.
