To the editor,

While the four remaining Republican presidential candidates are trying to pound each other into pulp, they still haven't addressed the number one problem in this country as well as the world: How are they going to pay for the huge growing debt that starting taking place when President George W. Bush took place? Remember when Bush returned money because we had that huge surplus as far as the eye can see?

Republican Bruce Bartlett, who wrote the book "Imposter: How George W. Bush Bankrupted America and Betrayed the Reagan Legacy." He thought Reagan did all right, as well as President George H.W. Bush and even President Clinton but when it came to G.W. Bush, he thought he was as bad as President Herbert Hoover concerning trade policies.

Here are some of the chapter headings: Chapter 3 - "Why the Bush Tax Cuts Didn't Deliver." Chapter 4 - "The Worst Legislation in History?" about the Medicare Part D drug benefit. Chapter 6 - "Is Enron a Metaphor for Bush's Economic Policy?" Chapter 10 - "The Shape of Taxes to Come," where he puts a lot of emphasis on consumption tax.

A lot more discussion is going to have to take place between the four Republican candidates, who signed the Grover Norquist pledge, which would probably take a consumptions tax or "Value Added Tax" and the income tax that President Obama wants to use of the wealthy based on ability to pay, off the table, even though 65 percent of the voters favor it.

All the name calling they've been using on each other and the 527 groups and the 501(c)3 and 501(c)4 groups which are even worse because they don't say where the money's coming from, doesn't impress me. I want the facts. Something I can take to the bank. Are they going to create more jobs in this country? Are they going to create a standard of living for the middle class? Has some justice been done to all those investment banks that created those subprime loans that put homewowners through hell just so bankers could get their huge bonuses?

The best books I ever read were about President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who some consider a Socialist but it's a lot better than selling out to Communism. He won World War II and he didn't bankrupt the country doing it.
