I am writing in strong support of Dan Gartzke's election as judge for the newly-created Green County Circuit Court Branch 2. I have known Dan for more than 25 years. He is both an exceptionally qualified candidate and an exceptionally good guy. Dan has practiced law more than 20 years and is well known as a thoughtful, bright and dedicated attorney. He has experience across a wide range of cases that real people face every day; from accidents to contracts to real estate and divorces. Everyone I know who has worked with him - even on the other side of a case - has a highly positive opinion of Dan.
Dan also is a dedicated community volunteer and parent. I have spent many Arbor Days with him and our high school students planting trees. He coaches the high school moot court team and is active in many community organizations such as New Glarus Vision and the New Glarus Community Foundation. He is a longtime force in the Wilhelm Tell play, both acting and working tirelessly behind the scenes. He's an active parent in our schools. Through these experiences and more, I have seen Dan work as hard or harder than anyone. He is always cheerful and treats people around him like gold, whatever their age or background or experience.
If you know Dan Gartzke, you know that he is humble and trustworthy. At the same time, you also know he is extremely sharp and is no pushover. We elect judges and entrust them to make some of society's toughest decisions. They must fairly and competently apply the law on behalf of the entire community in situations that often are very complex. Justice hangs in the balance for everyone, and individuals' rights and freedom are at stake. One of the ways we recognize the special nature of this job is by calling judges "your honor" and "the honorable...." If you think about it, it's what it really comes down to in picking a good judge. Is he or she truly honorable?
Dan Gartzke is as honorable as anyone I've ever known. He will be a great judge for Green County. Please join me and vote for Dan Gartzke April 7th.
