Food intended for those truly in need

From Karen Thomas,

Conference President,

St. Victor Conference, Society of St. Vincent de Paul

This is in response to "Glad to Have It," who complained about people going through the line more than once at the Mobile Food Pantry held at the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store each month. We at St. Vincent de Paul sponsor the Food Pantry in conjunction with St. Victor Parish; the food is supplied by Second Harvest. Other than the paid staff from the Thrift Store, we are all volunteers working at the Food Pantry. There have been concerns about people "double dipping," and that is the reason we began asking for identification. However, we were told by Second Harvest that we are not to do this, so the procedure stopped.

We are blessed to be able to provide this food to people who need it, and we have to trust that people will use this service as it was intended. Their conscience must be their guide. Thank you.
