The Green County Humane Society would like to remind potential adopters that Sept. 30 is the cutoff date for allowing outdoor adoptions.
To ensure the safety and well-being of our dogs and cats, it's important animals that will be living in barns or other outdoor structures be given a substantial amount of time to acclimate to the changing weather before the harsh winter weather sets in. This acclimation period allows them to grow a suitable coat for winter temperatures.
GCHS does require a site visit before allowing animals to be placed in an outdoor adoption arrangement to make sure living arrangements will be appropriate. In order to allow time for adoption approval and a site visit, anyone considering an outdoor adoption yet this year is encouraged to contact the GCHS shelter as soon as possible to begin the process.
We also would remind people who have lost a dog or cat to check with the GCHS shelter to see if the animal has been located and turned in. Our shelter is at capacity and we would love to see more lost animals reunited with their families.
For more information about adoptions, outdoor adoptions or redeeming lost pets, please call the GCHS shelter at 325-9600.
