Area citizens have many decisions to make in the Nov. 4 election. I hope you will join me in supporting our current State Representative Brett Davis for re-election.
Those of you who know me well know I am not a partisan person; I support the best person who will work for me in Madison. I have supported our State Senator Jon Erpenbach for re-election because he stood up for south central Wisconsin. I am voting for Brett for the very same reasons.
Two issues that are very important for me are agriculture and education, and Brett has distinguished himself in both areas. On education, Brett is chairman of the Assembly Education Committee and he worked hard even in tough budget times to ensure that education received more money than before. Brett has made it his passion to get more money in the classrooms so student achievement will increase.
On the issue of agriculture, Brett has worked to help rebuild the dairy industry. Because of this, Wisconsin is at near record levels of milk production. Most people would pat themselves on the back and say nice job, but not Brett. He recognized that if our cheesemakers could not keep up with the increased milk production, Wisconsin milk could be made into cheese in Illinois or Iowa. Brett supported our cheesemakers in the budget and he is working to help Wisconsin cooperatives expand, as well.
Brett's work in both agriculture and education has been recognized by others. He recently was named to the Agricultural Education and Work Force Development Council. The council is designed to address a shortage of qualified agriculture employees. Council members will find out what people of this area already know - when Brett sees a problem, he works to find solutions that people can live with and afford.
