Dave Searles: State voters let big business hold Court

State Supreme Court Justice Louis Butler was defeated by 2 percent of the vote. This proves that a majority of the voters of Wisconsin are morons. For two years in a row now, they have elected two seriously flawed candidates for the Wisconsin State Supreme Court, and not because they are conservatives.

A major part of the problem is the Republican Party of Wisconsin, Wisconsin Manufactures and Commerce Association (WMCA) and their ilk spent millions of dollars buying this election for Michael Gableman - as they did with last year's Supreme Court justice race - with some of the most dirty and sleazy negative television ads. Much of the money that was spent came from out of state.

Another major problem was Governor James Doyle. Instead of being home here in Wisconsin campaigning for Butler and putting pressure on the Wisconsin State Legislature to pass the no smoking law, reform the school funding formula, making sure the uninsured can obtain medical care, etc., Doyle was off in North Carolina campaigning for Barak Obama (talk about two more flawed candidates: Clinton and Obama) instead of tending to business in Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin State Supreme Court is now tipped conservative. The conservatives on the Court now have a clear majority to rule environmental laws and regulation of big business and corporations as unconstitutional. The WMCA has gotten what it paid for. It has made justice for sale in Wisconsin.
