Charles Drnek: Mixed messages from GCHS

The Green County Humane Society needs to get their act together. Last fall I caught a feral cat and followed procedure to bring it to the GCHS and two months later it came back. This summer it had five kittens and I took them to GCHS. Later I caught the mother and took her to GCHS and was told they do not take feral adult cats and I should take her out on a country road and let her go. I took her to my sister's farm in Woodford, 12 miles from Monroe, for a barn cat. It returned in three days. If I can live trap her again (very doubtful) I will take her to my vet who will spay her at my expense and then let it go. I also caught a mother cat that was gravely ill and was told by the GCHS that it would be an expense to euthanize her, so I put her down myself. The women from GCHS that picked up the last kitten told me they will take adult feral cats even if they are sick. The police officer told me as long as I follow procedure they have to take them.
