Both parties to blame; change is needed

This is not a letter supporting either candidate or party. Truth be told, I have not made up my mind on that issue. This is just my opinion, for what it's worth.

It's so easy to point our fingers at the president and blame him for our present crisis. Although the president must be a strong leader, he must have a support behind him - called Congress. Those congressman and senators can make or break the president. But we must look beyond that; look deeper and see who really is to blame.

The people of my generation (Baby boomers and above) have been complacent with things the way they were, because all was well. We did not look ahead and plan for the next generation. We thought everything was perfect, and it was, but times change and we need to change, as well. Old habits die hard, but there may be new ideas and we must be willing to listen and act. We have allowed the same Congress people to be elected time after time, no matter how many times they sold out the America people and let us down. You know who I mean, those "Good Old Boys" who have been around too many years to count; the ones with the stretched pockets from all the goodies the lobbyists put there.

Both candidates have stressed "change", so no matter which one takes office in January, we must look beyond that and start giving them a Congress that will work with him for the good of the people. It is not the president, or one party that is to blame. It takes years for problems to develop, and both parties have been in office during that time. We must look within ourselves to decide what we can do to assist this change. It is time for my generation to step aside and put people in Congress with new and better ideas. Ideas that will get the country back to where it was, so their generation can enjoy the benefits that we have had for many years and took for granted.

When it is time again to elect congressman and senators, look deep within yourself and remember, it took years to get into this dilemma. It is time for change! Let's help build a prosperous nation for the generations to come. My prayer is that we are not too late.
