A big blossom to the hundreds of people >who drove through to purchase hundreds of brats.
But a big barb to the Monroe Senior Center >for not naming Morlin "Mory" Zimmerman their first Brat King. Mory, along with Wayne Jensen, have been cooking brats since the first Brat Bash. Indeed, it was Mory's idea to have a drive-through Brat Brash. It was Mory who went out on his own and got soda pop, donations from Wal-Mart, Pick n Save, Dick's and a huge donation from Kwik-Trip. So if you see him around town, go up and thank him for this idea that has raised thousands of dollars for Monroe Senior Center. You can't miss him with his yellow suspenders. He will probably be talking to someone. Don't forget Wayne Jensen, too! We need more people like these two in Monroe! - Getting Older Cheesehead (by the way, where is Menards!)>
A big blossom to the Monroe Walgreens pharmacist >who helped us to get my uninsured sons medicine. He is a student of college, but not being full-time he is ineligible to be on my insurance. Without this man's assistance, we simply could not have paid for his three prescriptions, which would have totaled over $350. Also this is most certainly a clear case of the need for national health insurance in this country. My son works in addition to going to college, but receives no insurance with his jobs and cannot afford private insurance. - Anonymous>
This barb goes to Sen. Barack Obama. >How can one consider him good presidential material when he hasn't any regard for human life? I get information from Wisconsin Right to Life, which states how he thinks on abortion. He supports Roe v. Wade to legalize abortion on demand. He supports a Freedom of Choice act that overturns the right-to-life laws. He supports taxpayer funding of abortion. He approves providing care to babies born alive after abortion. He will only vote for judicial nominees that support abortion on demand. I ask the question: How can we vote for this kind of man? - Meryln, Brodhead>
A blossom to the dedicated hockey parents >who put so much time into seeing that SLICE came into reality in 1999. Parents and players today do not know how nice they have it. - Anonymous>
Many barbs to the "bouquet of blossoms" >sent to Arlene Huffman. No one takes time to investigate all the mean ads and rumors. John McCain IS a war hero. Being a war hero does not qualify you to run our country. - Undecided voter>
A blossom to all the Boy Scout troops and troop leaders >who sponsored the Yard Waste Drop Off Days each month this summer and fall. It was much appreciated, especially by older residents who enjoy large gardens and yards and find the $2 per bag charge for yard waste to be a burden. - Monroe Senior Citizen>
A blossom to all the Monroe Middle School's sixth- and seventh-graders >in the play "Wingin' It." They did a great job. - Sue Ambler>
I would like to barb the running candidates> in the local areas as well as the presidential candidates. We complain, and all of us know there is a shortage of funds around the whole U.S. Then why do you people insist on filling our mailboxes constantly with your propaganda? This is ridiculous. We see or hear enough of it every day, whether it's on the news or radio, and now even in our e-mail inboxes. Save everybody some money and cut back on this, or some of will be forced to mail all pieces back to the respected party. - Anonymous>
The board and staff of Green Haven want to send blossoms to all those who helped >us make the first Green County Expedition Scavenger Hunt a fun event. The weather held and teams traveled all over the area looking for clues. A particular mention of thanks to Jeannie Blumer and Bridget Mouchon for making the 833 luminaria shine in recognition of the Green Haven adult and child clients of 2007. Those flickering lights were the highlight of the event. Anyone interested in reading the clues can find them at our Web site: www.greenhaven4help.com. Also, we offer our sincere apology to the kind souls who live near the corner of Iliff Road and County N. You had many unintended visitors to your property on Saturday simply because you have a white fence and white post visible from the roadway. We hear you have a VERY beautiful yard! - Alice Franks-Gray, executive director, Green Haven Family Advocates>
A big bouquet of blossoms to Lafayette County, Green County and SLANT> law enforcement for so quickly recovering and solving the theft of items taken in the recent forced entry at the Argyle Rod and Gun Club. We appreciate the awareness of the officers who recognized our items when afforded the opportunity. On behalf of the board and members of Argyle Rod and Gun Club, we would like to say thank you! - Harold Marzolf>
A blossom to Monroe Fire Chief Daryl Rausch >for responding to Monroe Times blog posts, especially those on the recent city budget story. You provide information about the Fire Department that many in this community probably did not know. I appreciate your concern and dedication to this community and am impressed to learn of the department's efforts to keep our insurance rates low. Keep up the great blogging. It does more than you probably realize.
Also, a blossom to the Green County EMS >for taking the time to teach CPR to the boys, parents and leaders of Troop 180 for a price that probably only covered the materials. We hope none of us will ever have to use what we've learned, but we know we're prepared if something arises.
Finally, a blossom to the Monroe Streets and Sanitation Department> for offering the monthly yard waste cleanup program. Staffed by Boy Scouts and their parents, the program provided a no-cost way for city residents to get rid of grass clippings, branches, etc., every month. As a volunteer, I heard many positive comments from those who used the service. I know participants hope the city will continue the program next year. - Heather Lisser>
A blossom to George from Southern Wisconsin Co-op >for taking the time to help Tom Boll retrieve my ring from the pit in the car wash bay. Now that is customer service! - Darci Dammen, Monroe>
A barb to The Monroe Times >for not talking about some of the issues John Waelti and Rep. Brett Davis discussed at their forum at Twining Valley on Oct. 16, which was very well attended. As for a questionnaire I got on the Web from the League of Women Voters in Wisconsin, there were seven questions they asked and Mr. Waelti answered every one and Rep. Davis didn't even reply to it. I'd like to see The Monroe Times publish the questions and answers, and then maybe you'll know why Rep. Davis didn't answer. I'd like to see some group in this county sponsor a meeting before the election at the Monroe High School, where both candidates graduated from, especially since the economy is in such bad shape on all levels. Because, up to now, all I've heard is a lot of mudslinging by a lot of bad TV and radio ads. It would be interesting to see which one learned more in the way they conducted their life after they graduated, since they are both running for office. - Mr. and Mrs. La Vern F. Isley, Monroe>
A very big, sharp barb to who was on the Monroe school board >for thinking about buying Toyota cars. Don't you know we need jobs in this country? Why turn your back on American workers. Using taxpayer money to buy foreign cars and trucks is wrong, wrong, wrong. A double barb for those voting for John McCain. A vote for McCain would be as smart as a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders. And Palin is being investigated for an abuse of power. Our government has been operating with losers for the last eight years. We deserve better than that. - Rodney Zimmerman>
A big blossom to Nate Roth >and his continued involvement in our community. I see he is in the paper volunteering his time on a number of occasions. Nate has spent countless hours working for Monroe despite his own personal trials. You make me proud to be a part of this community Nate. My thanks. Bless you. - Kay>
