A blossom to the Brodhead Jaycees craft show. It was fun to attend but a little disappointed to see so many booths with the same thing. Enjoyed my time anyway and looking forward to next year. Encourage others to attend if you never have. - Anonymous

A huge blossom to the Project World students who collected food for the food pantry on Halloween night and to the citizens of Monroe for donating the food to the food pantry. Another blossom to the cast of Cinderella (at Monroe Middle School) for a wonderful performance on Saturday. Everyone did an awesome job. - Anonymous

A large bouquet of blossoms to all of the volunteers who helped make the 2011 Green County Veterans Appreciation Dinner happen. The Albany and Monroe Lions Club put on an excellent lunch in Albany, with cakes for dessert provided by the Monroe Senior Center. Milk for lunch was provided by the Don Olin/Albany Mini Mart. Additional help was provided by the Juda Forefathers organization, who graciously filled in where ever help was needed. Excellent music was provided by Del Heins and Jerry Hastings. Also, individual thanks are given to Stan and Barb Erlandson for taking reservations again this year. And a big thank you to the 236 veterans, their spouses, and widows that helped to make this event a success. - The Green County Veterans Service Office

A blossom, blessing and thank you to the wonderful lady on Nov. 2 who alerted a helpful Walmart employee that a brown purse was left in a car in the corral and he retrieved it and Walmart called to say it was found. - A grateful shopper

A barb to Gov. Walker because we support his recall, somewhat like Canada does when they have a vote of confidence. With the growing debt, he took the sales and income tax off the table and called it bargaining in good faith. Also, he supported passing a concealed carry gun law with a four-hour training period. Then after it passes, he supported getting rid of the four-hour training. Could you imagine that ever happening in the military? Taking for granted that every soldier knew how to take care of his gun? Now, other people have other reasons for the recall but these are our two main reasons and it all starts Nov. 15 because he and his party promote more bad ideas than they do good ones. I know other people have other ideas but this is how a democracy works. - La Vern and Linda Isely

A huge bucket of barbs to the waiters and waitresses who use the term "guys" when they wait on you. When I'm sitting there with a a beard and mustache and the one across from me is wearing makeup and jewelry, we are not all guys. How about saying, "Hi folks, what can I get for you folks, thank you folks." Owners and managers, please instruct your help. - Jose

A blossom: I commend Gov. Walker standing up for using the word Christmas tree instead of holiday tree. It's been that way, as he said, for many years, and it's meaningful as well as right. We don't need to change it at all. If those who are offended, they can put it up and say we have a tree or house tree, etc. The time of year was Jesus' birth, so it should be noted in words like Christmas tree, Christmas time, etc. I say, if it upsets non-Christians, there are countries they can go to where they fit in better. It's just a picky thing, period. - Merlyn

A barb against Anonymous for claiming that 46 percent do not pay taxes. The 46 do pay taxes, including payroll taxes, property taxes and sales taxes, as well as user fees. The one percent actually leach off the 99 percent. - Dave Searles

A huge blossom to Washington Implement Case IH dealer in Monticello for committing to the main sponsorship for the Green County Fall Nationals tractor and truck pull for the fifth straight year for next year's event Sept. 22, 2012. Every sponsor helps make this show a success, but without our big sponsors like Washington Implement and the class sponsors (will be announced soon), this event could not happen. This has turned into one of the bigger events in Green County and is the largest nonprofit event held in the county. GCFN is a non profit 501(3)c organization. With the near-record crowd this year, more than $50,000 will be helping families with hardship and other local organizations. With the economy the way it is, it's great to have sponsors like Washington Implement do what they do to help put on an event in our own county to provide entertainment for families. They also supply all the track equipment and line up the pulloff tractors and drivers. For eight-plus hours, they are working for the event after still writing a check. I would like to give a blossom to a few other sponsors that go beyond their checkbook: Bell Signs, Bauman Custom Farming, Nack Construction, Carrousel Grain Services, M&D Equipment, and Rufer Excavating. Thanks to you all for the extra hand and the product that is given. One last thing, besides the sponsors that deserve blossom after blossom, a huge blossom should go out to each spectator that fills the stands. Without you, there would be nothing left to be able to give back to the community. Thanks to all whohave made this such a great event! - Green County Fall Nationals
