A blossom to the fall sports teams of Monroe. >What a great season you have had! A blossom to the coaches,> as well! - Monroe supporters>
This is a blossom to all the coaches who donate their time for the Monroe Rebel Soccer program. >We look forward to watching the girls play each year because they have so much fun. An extra blossom to the Monroe Strikers >(thanks Pat and Merriam) for going undefeated! - Soccer Mom>
A huge bouquet of blossoms to the owners and staff at Vince's Pizza >for sponsoring the successful spaghetti supper fundraiser for the proposed Green County Veterans Memorial Park held recently at the Cecil-Jones V.F.W. Post 2312.
Many bouquets go out to the Woodford State Bank, Super 8 Motel, First Banking Center of Monroe, and Stuckey Construction >for their donations to the event. And blossoms to The Monroe Times and Big Radio WEKZ >for promoting and publishing our news developments of the proposed park. You will be acknowledged in our growing list of contributors.
More blossoms to all the volunteers >who helped prepare and serve food, and baked homemade pies and desserts. A special thanks to Jeff Perkins for a delightful evening of musical entertainment.
To all the petals in the community that came out to support our fundraiser, you are American Beauty Roses. - Green County Veterans Memorial Park, Chairman Larry Ayres, Fundraising Chairman Bev Stuckey>
A huge blossom to Dr. Megan Jordan >at Monroe Veterinary Service for all the care and attention she gave to our oldest golden, Rika. Her expertise and knowledge helped us make informed decisions. Her genuine compassion and caring were greatly appreciated when we had to say goodbye to our beloved pet. Thank you, Dr. Jordan, you made our journey a little easier to bear. - Jim and Karen Freymiller>
The United Way extends bouquets of blossoms to Monroe Clinic, Swiss Colony, Precision Drive & Control, Portraits by Dawn and Lamar Signs >for sponsoring the Live United billboards that have been featured throughout the county. Thanks to the sponsorship of these area businesses, the United Way has had the opportunity to spread the message of Living United in Green County without spending any United Way contributions to do so. If you haven't already; won't you join these area businesses and their employees who actively volunteer to help people in our community? Everyone has the ability to help in our community in some way. Find your way to help. Be part of improving lives in Green County. Be part of making our community stronger for everyone! Live united. ... Blossoms to each of you who do! - United Way of Green County>
A barb to the vandalism in Monroe.> It's not safe with all that's going on - people getting hurt while walking, lawn ornaments being taken, tires being slashed, plus bedroom and picture windows being broken with rocks and bricks. It was lucky four times that people didn't get hurt with broken glass. What is this town coming to? - Disgusted Taxpayer>
A barb to Monroe Police Chief Fred Kelley >for his downtown parking enforcement proposal. He cares more about the short-term impact on his 2010 budget than the long-term impact for Monroe's Square. Find another way to solve your budget deficit for next year that doesn't involve raising fees to Monroe's citizens and visitors, and wait to see what parking problems might occur after the Streetscape project is complete and parking is available on the entire Square once again before spending money to make money! Don't bully the City Council into a too-quick decision without discussion with Main Street, Green County and the downtown business and building owners. - Truly tired of the same old Monroe politics>
A big blossom to Jeff Ditzenberger and Sloan Implement >for bringing in the "Big Green Tractor" for our Farm Day theme at Monroe Parks and Recreation Winter Playtime. We loved being able to sit in the tractor and pretend we were driving. These days are so special to us, and we will remember them for a long, long time. We couldn't believe how big the tractor tires were. - Monroe Parks and Recreation Winter Playtimers>
A barb to the School District of Monroe. >Just received my copy of the "District Communicator Newsletter" in Friday's mail. Very impressive piece. Eleven double-sided pages printed on the finest glossy stock, very expensive paper no doubt. Recycled paper might have been a more frugal choice. Sent to everyone in the school district, I guess, since I haven't had kids in the district since 2001. Just a couple of thoughts. First, get out a dictionary and look up "fiscal" and then "responsibility." Then try to put the two definitions together. Fiscal responsibility has a certain ring to it in these economic times. I don't believe we gave you a blank check when we passed the referendum. I would like to know the total cost of preparation, if you don't mind. - Angry Taxpayer>
