I am giving a huge blossom to the guy >who helped my sister who was on the side of the road with car trouble. His help is very much appreciated. A blossom to the towing company> for making quick work of getting the car to the repair shop and a blossom to Arn's >as well for fixing the car in short order. There are still good people out there and I for one am thankful. - Aaron>
A barb against vehicle idlers.> These are people who leave their vehicles idling, wasting fuel or gas and polluting the air. According to the March/April issue of Sierra, cars waste 1.4 billion gallons of gas per year idling and trucks waste 1.5 billion gallons of fuel per year idling. Collectively, they emit 58 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere essentially by doing nothing.
Another barb against Brodhead Mayor Doug Pinnow and the Brodhead City Council >for not coming up with a plan by March 1 to replace the unsafe sidewalks in Brodhead this summer. Unsafe sidewalks are accidents waiting to happen, and therefore, lawsuits against property owners and the city waiting to happen. The mayor and city council have a duty and responsibility to ensure that all sidewalks are safe. They have ignored that duty and responsibility. - Dave Searles, Brodhead>
A big blossom to the person >who found my wallet/checkbook and turned it in so quickly at the Walmart store on Sunday night, March 1. He'll never know how panicked I was when I discovered it missing and how relieved I was to find it had been turned in intact. I only hope that person reads this, as I have no way of thanking him personally for being so honest. Many blossoms to him! - Carol Moser, Monticello>
Thank you for the opportunity to publicly thank and give blossoms to Green County 911 dispatch and the Green County Highway crews >on duty in the very early morning hours of Friday, Feb. 27. I was attempting to drive from my home in Postville to Monroe Clinic Hospital, where my daughter and son-in-law were having our very first grandbaby. The icy roadways were treacherous and much worse than I realized when I began my venture. My car was unable to crest one of the last hills before I reached State Highway 81. So close and so far from the birth of this dear little one. After talking to the 911 dispatcher, a salt truck came by and a man in a smaller Green County truck helped me first by calming me and then escorting me to the highway. I cannot thank you all enough for your encouragement and good wishes about the baby. Pink bouquets to you all from this new Grandma. By the way, Baby Paizley is absolutely precious. Thank you for helping me get to be there on time. Certainly, God used all of you during this miracle of birth. - Kathy Stefenel, Blanchardville>
A barb to council member Hanson> and his poor attempt at self-promotion in an effort to control a story. It's actually what we in your district, and the rest of the city, are used to. Like you stated, where was all the outrage about the wood-fired furnaces earlier, especially from you? You disagree with the rest of the council, so they're wrong and you're right and hence the rebuttal. Why don't you worry about the big picture and promote the City of Monroe and try and bring in better-paying jobs? While you were driving around town, Thurston, did you happen to notice all the homes for sale? Better-paying jobs = more homeownership and the ability to buy a new car. This garbage that this ordinance will keep people from moving to Monroe is just that, garbage! Not everything can be helped with a liquor license or a Big Box store, now, can it? - T. Wilkens>
