A blossom to the Farmer's Market in Monroe. >As a downtown property and business owner, I would like to take a minute to thank the Farmer's Market vendors and shoppers for their participation. This continuously brings more actual shoppers to the Square than any other event, for which I am grateful. With the construction in process, the parking will be tight and the Wednesday afternoon market may be a bit compressed, but hopefully by mid-August the north side of the Square will be complete and able to welcome them with new streetscape and utilities for their use. Also, parking should improve because there are no restaurants competing for the space on the north side. - Thomas Kelly, Uptown Girl>

A barb against anyone who believes or proposes that the sales tax should be increased or raised. >The sales taxi is the most anti-progressive, regressive and unfair tax ever invented. The sales tax hits the working class and the poor much more disproportionately and therefore is effectively a tax on the working class and poor. Government expenses and services should be paid for by the progressive income tax and corporate tax that are the most fair and progressive of all taxes. The goal should be to phase out the sales tax and shift the tax burden to the progressive income tax and the corporate tax. - Dave Searles, Brodhead>

I would like to send a blossom to all the residents of Green County who have maintained a Body Mass Index of 30 or less. >You are now in the minority and should be congratulated for your effort. You have mastered the only rule of maintaining a healthy weight. It is called the push back rule. It consists of pushing back your dinner plate after you have eaten a reasonable amount of food. This may seem like a difficult exercise, but if you think of the possible consequences, it is in your best interest. I will not go into the possible consequences of not being at a healthy weight, but the fact that being grossly overweight has been shown to reduce one's quality and length of life should be recognized. Eat healthy and be happy. - Anonymous>

A huge blossom to Jean Winkler of Browntown! >She planned and carried out a beautiful day for Browntown and the surrounding communities on Sunday, June 28. The day included a prayer given by Pastor Ray Sowersby of Peace Church. Many events were scheduled, including canoe races, tours of historic homes and gardens, a trip to the Devil's Tea Table, Browntown Museum, dog obedience demonstrations, and making an herb garden. Delicious pork sandwiches and malts from the Green County Ag Chest were available; and cheese trays were passed around by Nicole, our Browntown Dairy Queen. The entertainment included an excellent skit given by Noel and Deb Ditzenberger; the Andrews Sisters, so very well done by The Kimbell Sisters, featuring Browntown's own Shelly Welch; plus the Greg Anderson Band, who played as McKenzie Chapman sang. Dennis Whitney also accompanied on the drums. Greg did an excellent job as the master of ceremonies for the day. Jean Winkler put in many hours in making this space in Browntown a beautiful site. You can see it as you enter downtown Browntown from Highway 11. Great job, everyone! It is impossible to mention everyone's name who contributed to this day, but you know who you are. This was a patriotic, reverent, plus "much fun "day in Browntown, Wisconsin. Thank you, Jean Winkler, for all that you have done to make this "spot of beauty" where there used to be a "swamp." - Donna Ditzenberger, Browntown>

A beautiful bouquet of blossoms to the Green County Relay for Life Committee >for planning such a successful event. You did a great job paying tribute to both those who have lost the battle to cancer and to those who have come out victorious on the other side. A blossom to honorary chair and survivor Lisa Anderson, >who did a great job reminding everyone how important it is to offer a helping hand to cancer victims in our community. - Cancer Caregiver, Monroe>

A barb goes out to the person(s) who lit up a smoke at the Relay for Life.> Unbelievable that we are at a cancer walk and you could smoke your cigarette, and on school grounds no less. - Anonymous>

A multitude of barbs to the Waupaca judge >for dismissing animal cruelty charges against those two morons who killed deer with snowmobiles by using a loophole law. They weren't hunting, but exhibiting twisted behavior and therefore should have been ordered to see a psychologist. To those of you who are all lathered up over the agenda of the Humane Society (U.S.), this is a prime example as to why HSUS is highly supported. - Bobette Traul, Monroe>
