Blossoms & Barbs: Feb. 27, 2010

This is a barb to the SUV which, when in the right-hand lane between the mall and Blue Ox, thought they had the right away. I could have slowed down and let him in, but by law I don't have to. His lane ended not mine. So next time, MR. SUV when you decide to honk profusely and turn on your headlights (both which made me chuckle even more) realize you're the idiot who DOESN'T have the right away in that lane. Unfortunately, you're one of many. - Safe driver

A blossom to Senator Scott Brown of Massachusetts (Republican) for crossing the aisle, along with 12 others, and voting for the jobs bill that made news this week. People need work, and he chose to help those people with $15 billion of the taxpayers' money. It might sound bad to sometimes take from others, but job creation leads to consumer spending. The more that is spent, the more jobs and money flowing in our economy. The Tea Party is none to happy, but that is not his problem. He doesn't owe Tea Partiers for getting elected - they just helped him. He ran for the Senate to serve his constituents and his country - not his party and the small grocery bag of tea and crumpets on the far right. - A REAL conservative

A barb to people who owe money and have other legal problems, but just dump their phone number to avoid those calls. I've gotten at least three calls a day from someone looking for the old keeper of my phone number to collect money or at least find out where they are. A lot of the time, I just let the call go through, but they all leave messages that fill up the voice mail. Then, taking the 10, 15, 30 minutes to call the company back to say that I am not "that guy" and they need to remove my number, is taking time out of my day. I moved to town a year ago, and already I'm thinking of switching telephone numbers! - Angry in Monroe!

A blossom to the Winter Olympics and USA Hockey! Both the men and women are proudly winning games on the big stage. The heavy underdog men beat Canada? Awesome. It was 30 years ago this week that the Miracle on Ice took place. Despite the poor weather, the Olympics have been fun to watch. Maybe even more kids will get interested in skiing and hockey because of this. The U.S./Canada game set the mark on MSNBC, tying the presidential election! People are tuning in more than ever to watch hockey, maybe our kids could even get some good publicity too! - A hockey fan

A blossom to the Monroe Basketball teams! Seven-straight conference titles for the girls and four for the boys, that's awesome! Not a lot of other schools can boast that kind of athletic achievement! Also, a blossom to Kevin Klopfenstein for reaching state for wrestling! Only a freshman? Look out Wisconsin! - Cheesemaker fan
