I didn't get everything I wanted from Santa for Christmas. A barb to the elves who are union workers. It's gotta be those unions' fault. - Anonymous
A blossom to Steve Gant from Durand, Ill. His comments on the ridiculous recall efforts of Walker are refreshing to hear. I have talked to many of our neighbors in Illinois and they just shake their heads in disbelief wishing they had a governor with the kind of courage that Walker has. It's really disturbing to me to think that the liberal Democrats are so insistent on recalling the very person who is doing what he said he would if elected and all the Democrats hid in Illinois at taxpayers' expense instead of doing their job. - Anonymous
Congratulations and a big blossom to Steve Gant from Durand, Ill. for recognizing we have a good governor in Wisconsin who we should be embracing instead of trying to recall. Why does it take someone from another state to see this? - A Walker supporter
A bouquet of blossoms is sent to the employees of Colony Brands who chose to make a donation to the Green County Historical Society. The money has been placed in the endowment fund and only the interest earned will be used to operate the museum, which is currently housed in the 150-year-old former Universalist Church. This gift is vital to the future maintenance of the building. A large blossom is also sent to Colony Brands for donating the money to the GCHS and for printing our newsletters each quarter. - Green County Historical Society
A barb to this newspaper, The Monroe Times, and to all who use X in place of Christ in the word Christmas. According to Webster's Seventh New Collegiate Dictionary, the definition of the word Christmas is a Christian feast on Dec. 25 that commemorates the birth of Christ. The definition of Ramadan is a sacred observation of the ninth month of the Mohammedan year. The definition of Hanukkah is an eight-day Jewish Holiday. I'm quite sure this newspaper would not print Xamadan or Xanukkah in any article, so why use X in place of Christ in Christmas? Please, let's put Christ back in Christmas. Thank you for allowing me to express my thoughts. - Donna O'Connor, Monroe
A barb to Gov. Walker and the Tea Party Republicans. (I) read an editorial in the Capital Times Wednesday, Dec. 14 about how Walker will taint our state's history with the help of his supporters. A woman witnessed the Young Republicans' foundation tape. She said it repeatedly told their supporters "they must do whatever it takes to keep Walker in office." She said these Republicans are as dirty as their leadership - I agree with her. If we leave Walker in office for four years - like some people say we should do - he will destroy Wisconsin completely. By recalling Walker, we're going to save our state and collective bargaining. If you want to and haven't signed a "Recall Walker" petition, you can sign any place in Wisconsin - as long as you are an eligible voter and residence of Wisconsin for 28 days. - A Cap Times reader
A barb to the news reporting of the tax extension bill and the bill itself. President Obama and the Democrats claim this bill as a big victory and the news is reporting it as such. 1. Obama says it's great for workers except the extension is only for two months and adds up to about $125, while the House Republicans wanted a year extension or about $1,000 in savings. Which one is best for workers? 2. Obama and Dems wanted a tax increase on income over $1 million, which isn't included in the extension. 3. It requires Obama to make a decision on the pipeline; earlier Obama refused to make any decision on the pipeline till after the next election (quite presidential, considering all the jobs that would have been created. I guess he couldn't just vote present like he did when he was a legislator.) 4. The extension bill pays for the tax cuts by charging higher fees on housing purchases or refinancing. How is it that right? - A taxpayer
The Monroe Green County food pantry would like to send a huge blossom to the individuals, churches, businesses, and organizations that donated food and/or money during the holiday season. It was greatly appreciated by the pantry and those who received food from the pantry. We would not have been able to get along without your support now and throughout the whole year. - Maynard Heins
