Blossoms & Barbs: December 17, 2011

A blossom to everyone who feels they need to complain about anything, not because I agree with you complaining about everything but because I think you just need something to brighten your day. Everyone who complains about anything political: Remember that there are two sides to everything, and without one side you wouldn't have the other. While you may not agree with the other side, you have to respect it because without the other side, you wouldn't have your side. So instead of saying the other side is simply wrong, talk about how and why you think your side is right, but without bashing the other side. Well, anyway, all this effort you people are putting into being unhappy should really be put towards being happy. Have a great day. - Liz

A barb: I wish the lady who stated we shouldn't recall Walker would have given the school that has 13.5 number of students in a room. Walk through the schools and you will see 25 to 27 students, wall-to-wall. Where are the tools? These are our future generation. How can we do this to the generation that will make our state strong? Where are the jobs she stated? There are children who are hungry because the parents lost their jobs. I think the fabrications that are going around are making our state look irrational. Why are the workers paying for the debt that the government caused? We workers pay our taxes. - A concerned citizen who is worried about our schools

I would like to give a barb to Brian Keith and the rest of the Monroe School Board for wanting to add hockey to the sports offered at the high school. This additional cost is not acceptable to the taxpayers. Why don't you starting saving my money and eliminate all sports and extracurriculars? Why don't you close all of the schools? If you choose to have kids, they are your problem and not my problem. Why don't we eliminate all city and county workers? I can maintain the road in front of my property and fix the road by myself. This would save a lot of money. The state gave 191 businesses a tax credit. According to the Times, only 8 percent of those businesses created jobs like they were supposed to do. Why doesn't the state make them give me my money back? The state is finally looking at ending many farm subsidy programs. It is about time the farmers give me back some of my hard-earned money. The farmers have taken enough from me. - Had enough

A blossom to all those in our community that visited the Christmas Open Houses. We were able to give a nice donation to The American Cancer Society. Thank you. - The Grubers, The Leopolds and The Nufers

Give a barb to the Monroe Police Department for not having a representative in uniform at the funeral of former police chief Ken Hendrickson of the Monroe department.

Give a blooming blossom to the American Legion and U.F.W. Firing Squad at the closing ceremony at the gravesite.

A blossom to the Wisconsin Army National Guard TAPS player, flag folders and presenter. Chief Ken took President Kennedy's words into reality, (ask not what your country) can do for you, but what you can do for your country. God bless. - Proud to be retired from Military 1st Ret.

A barb to the Santa who stood in front of the old Walmart building with a sign to recall Walker. I couldn't help but see the desperation in the effort to recall the governor that they would use our kids this way. Thankfully many of the kids won't understand it but they will connect Santa with something that is upsetting parents. Shame on the recall effort in Monroe. - Anonymous

A blossom to Portraits By Dawn for inviting several Greenco clients to her studio to be photographed. Dawn provided this service at a minimum cost on a group outing. For Christmas, I received a professional keepsake photo from my sister to be treasured in years to come. - A grateful family member

A blossom to everyone during this Christmas season.

A barb to all who have an issue with me wishing anyone a "Merry Christmas" or talking about my "Christmas" Tree. If I happen to meet you on the street, or talk to you on the phone, and wish you a "Merry Christmas," I apologize if you in some way think I am subliminally trying to convert you to my religion. I am not. I am merely conveying a wish for you to have a safe and joyous holiday. I would take not take offense if you wished me a happy Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa, or whatever holiday you are celebrating, but for me it is Christmas. So from my family to yours: "Merry Christmas" and please have a safe and happy New Year. - Anonymous

A barb to any and all who keep posting lies or half truths about our current state government. Here are some facts that cannot be disputed: 1. November is the fifth straight month in which Wisconsin lost jobs, while the rest of the country is gaining. That's an indisputable fact. 2. Walker has raised (according to his own campaign documents) $5.1 million for his recall campaign; $2.4 million of that is from out of state. Did you get that? Nearly half is from out of state. His contributions from Texas and Illinois alone equal half of the total raised by the other side. 3. For those claiming that it is out-of-state interests pushing for the recall, the facts don't back you up. The recall effort has raised a total of $1.4 million, with 88 percent coming from in-state. Again, these are facts coming directly from campaign finance documents that by law are registered with the state. I'm certain some will find some defense for Walker being bought and paid for by out-of--state money, but only because it really comes down to not really caring how you get your way as long as you get your way. - Anonymous
