A huge blossom to the Monroe Junior Bowling League held at Leisure Lanes on Saturday morning and Wednesday after school. A very special blossom and thanks goes out to the director Mike Myers, who has promoted the program for more than 23 years. He has put a smile on every child's face who has participated in the program. A special thank you goes out to the coaches who have volunteered their time over the years. We hope the program continues for a long time to come. A job very well done. - The parents, volunteers and past members

As a retired firegighter, I would like to give a great big blossom to all the 911 dispatchers in Monroe and Brodhead (and everywhere for that matter) for the incredible job you do. This past week was National Telecomunicator's Week and the general public has little to no idea what goes on behind the scenes when the 911 call for help comes in. They are our first line of safety and are expected to make split second decisions when someone's life is on the line. For the amount of stress and pressure they are under, the constant training and workload they go through, the long hours away from their friends and families on nights/weekends/holidays, and the public's expectation to be calm and compassionate when someone is having the worst time of their life, I think we owe them a big thanks. - Grateful in Green County

We would like to send a big blossom (and thanks) to the community for supporting the MERIT Center by attending the first MERIT Center Fish Fry. More than 600 people attended (twice the number we expected for a new event.) We also would like to thank Coplien Painting, The Monroe Lion's Club, St. Victor's and St. Francis of Assisi Parish, The Monroe Times and WEKZ as our major sponsors. Additionally, many fire department members and others from neighboring communities helped with preparing and serving food for the event. Also quite a number of firefighters who were there to eat stepped in to help when Monroe F.D. members were called out for a fire response in the middle of the event. We had some problems keeping up with the crowds and we know many of you waited awhile to eat. We thank you for your patience and understanding; we are already planning for the second annual event on March 29 next year and we promise we will have the bugs worked out so that serving times are shortened. The MERIT Center is a 6-acre multi-use training facility in the north Business and Industry Park. All of the development at the center has been accomplished using only money, materials and labor donated by civic organizations, individuals and businesses and to date more than $750,000 has been raised. Because of your continued generous support, the MERIT Center will continue to develop new training opportunities for area fire, police and EMS departments and private industry safety training. We currently are developing a farm rescue area and hope to erect a permanent classroom building at the site before the end of the year. The MERIT Center exists as truly an example of what communities can do when they pull together for a common cause. - The MERIT Center

A barb to The Shopping News. For three weeks in a row, we have not received a paper. According to the deliver boy, we are not on the "list" of address that are supposed to receive a paper. I know that we are not alone in this, as only one side of our street received a paper last week. We have several businesses in our family that advertise in this paper, assuming that the paper is going to the homes it claims. When I call The Shopping News, there is no response from the circulation department. Businesses in town should know that their advertisements are not reaching the readership The Shopping News claims to reach. - Anonymous
