A big blossom to the Monroe Booster Club for paying for the cleaning of the ceiling and the painting of Monroe High School's Game Gym. With budget cuts hitting everyone, the cleaning and painting of the gym was one of the casualties for the school district's long-term maintenance plan. However, the booster club stepped up and covered the cost in order to get those two very important tasks completed. Todd Smith and his crew at Arrow Sales took care of the cleaning of the rafters and Darris Henning and his crew at Preferred Painting handled the painting of the gym. The booster club works hand in hand with all the athletic programs and provides many different benefits, and this is just one example. Basically all the money raised goes right back to the schools and the student/athletics. After seeing the looks on several of the kids faces already, we are confident when you step foot in the gym this fall, you are going to be impressed with the new look. These are the kind of actions that help keep schools closely connected with the community and the families. In this day and age, we can never get enough of this. Thanks Booster Club for all you do for Monroe High School. - Dave Hirsbrunner, Monroe Athletic Director
A blossom to the Monroe Times for offering a great incentive for subscribing to the Times for a year. It was really appreciated. - Laurie and Jim
Two huge blossoms to the lady and gentleman who picked me up at the Post Office July 28, at about 4:15 p.m. I had fallen on up-raised cement. I've had two knees replaced, with a hip to be done. - A golden-ager so thankful for help
I'd like to give The Monroe Times a blossom for running a survey titled "Which system do you favor for representation on Monroe's City Council?" The results were 156 votes favoring the ward system and 46 votes favoring an at-large system. I agree with Alderman Jan Lefevre when she said "an advisory referendum would cost taxpayers extra money and would not bind the council to the voter's decision anyway." I can't imagine, if we had the referendum, why anyone would vote in large enough numbers to actually defeat our present ward system, which has been around for a good long time for a good reason, stating each ward has to have the alderman live in that ward. I hope everyone attends the Aug. 16 meeting at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall. - LaVern F. Isely
I would like to send a blossom to the woman, whose name I didn't get, (maroon colored SUV) who stopped to see if I needed help. I was along side the road on County C, at 5:30 p.m. on July 31. It was hot out and my car overheated. Kind enough to see if my stepdaughter and I needed a ride out of the heat. It was just very nice to see that there are still kind people out there. You know who you are and I thank you for then following me once my car started in a few minutes. It also gave her comfort seeing that there are still kind people in this world. Thank you again. - Anonymous
I wish to give The Monroe Times and its circulation department a blossom for giving my summer school "In The News" class students a daily newspaper free of charge. This opened the doors to so much informative and enlightening stories and events. It introduced my students to a media they don't usually enjoy and certainly increased their reading skills. Also, I would like to offer a blossom to Mark Nesbitt, sports writer, for coming to my class to speak with the students on the aspects of the paper they might not have known about. Thank you for your continued support for education. You have opened many doors for my students. Thank you. - Gil Oberdas
