I have an idea that should be looked into to keep more dollars here in the country. Recently, Alliant Energy planned to build a coal-fired plant and it was turned down by PSC. So my thoughts are, go to the nearest lock on the Mississippi River and put in turbines (such as at Prairie du Sac).
I hear they were going to spend billions at Cassville.
Also upgrade the shipping lanes, as the barges need to be split up now (this is costly and time consuming). Only two locks have been updated, so if this could be done all the way down the Mississippi River, electricity could be gained, and jobs would be created. And charge a small fee to the barges as they pass for the time saved. This really would not cost the taxpayers much money.
No pollution, no energy used to make electric. Thank you for considering my idea.
