Alderman welcomes adminstrator

Ward 7 Alderman

I want to welcome Philip Rath and his family to Monroe as our new city administrator. Philip Rath is a leader who will guide our City towards greater fiscal responsibility and accountability.

This past Tuesday night, at a meeting of the Common Council, I made the following motion: "in the furtherance of transparency and public interest, I move to release the closed meeting minutes and all emails regarding the just completed administrator search as soon as legally possible."

The motion was passed unanimously by the council. The public has a right to know the details of the hiring process.

The Monroe Times has made an open records request regarding the hiring process. Furthermore, City Clerk Carol Stamm has requested "any and all communications - including emails, letters, offers, counter-offers and closed session meeting minutes - related to the city administrator selection process" from the mayor and alderpersons. I trust that the truth will come out.

In the end, with a unanimous vote, the council hired a very skilled candidate. Philip Rath begins work Dec. 6. I encourage citizens and community leaders to support him.
