A huge barb: On Oct. 12, a small black kitten was at our door, left stranded the night before. For two days this loving, clean and healthy kitten was fed and cared for, but someone in this house is allergic to cats. So late Oct. 13, it was taken to the Green County Humane Society shelter in Monroe. Please, someone adopt this kitten now with admitting date of Oct. 13. Now for the party that left it and the sibling up the street, if you were unable to care for them, you should have taken them to our shelter. Someday there will be a very hot place for you called the broiler room. - J&T
A bunch of blossoms to the primary sponsor Silver Lewis Cheese Factory and to the secondary sponsor Alp & Dell for donating the cheeses curds for the fundraiser at Pleasant View Nursing Home in May. Another bunch of blossoms to Swiss Colony for the donation of petit fours, Monroe High School for letting us borrow decorations, and to St. Vincent de Paul for letting us use evening gowns to make Pleasant View's first Gala Affair Party a fantastic event. A blossom bouquet to each Monroe Middle School Project World student who made more than 100 beautiful flower corsages for all of the residents; it made their day. - Jennifer Stollenwerk
A huge blossom to A Burdened Taxpayer for reminding me that it is time for me to get hold of a Recall Walker sign for my yard. I have been waiting for this time to come for a long while. Why don't you let the governor know about all of those states that are begging for a man like him to come along; glad to send him their way. I'll be proud to have you notice my Recall Walker sign. - A Taxpayer Too
A big barb to the city of Monroe on a job well done on the overhead bridge on 9th Street. Guess they're more worried about bikers hitting their heads than how to groom the snowmobile trail through the city of Monroe. There's one way to get through town and that's it. I see no snowmobile route through town in the future on city streets. The club has tried over the years and the city will not go for it. And why would you even think of taking a fire truck over that bridge? You can access it from both sides. I'm glad to see the ATV club has access to the fairgrounds for camping. Some officials in this town do not realize that snowmobile and ATVing in this town is as important to us as Cheese Days and the Square is to other people. Please remember people that times are changing. -Anonymous
I wish to send a blossom to Ben. I received an envelope in the mail with the return address listed as Peace Church, Browntown, Wis. Inside was a card made from construction paper with a lot of Christian articles pasted on it and it was signed Ben. I happen to know his Sunday School teacher by the name of Janet. It sure made my day. One article was about a Christian lighted pumpkin for all the word to see and we should pass it on to all the pumpkins in our patch. - Josie Fransen
This is a barb to the barb that was posted Oct. 15 against the Monroe Booster Club in regards to dropping the ball in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the undefeated football team during Homecoming. In defense of the Monroe Booster Club, we wanted to organize an event honoring the past champion football teams; however, Pat Martin said he was going to do something. As president of the booster club, I do not know whose responsibility it is to organize such events; however, the booster club is more than willing to do something if we are asked to. At this time I would also like to thank all the sponsors and volunteers that helped this past football season. The booster club would not be a success without all your help. Thank you to all that support the Monroe Booster Club and the Monroe Athletes. - Frank Pivonka, Monroe Booster Club president
A barb against The Monroe Times for not requiring that submitters use their real names. Those that will not use their real names are cowards. Thank you for considering this matter. - Dave Searles
A barb to President Obama, Vice President Biden and Senate Democrat Leader Reid: The rhetoric coming from our so called leaders is pathetic. Obama has been on his job tour, also known as his taxpayer-funded campaign tour, spending millions of taxpayer dollars, spewing class warfare. His jobs bill is about taxing more, funding some public sector jobs for one year only so next fall he can claim he created more jobs. The problem being, it's only for one year. If cities etc. had the money for these jobs, they would be hiring these employees permanently. Biden is saying rape and murder will increase if the bill isn't passed. So now every year, somebody is going to have to get taxed more to pay for additional police, firemen, etc, or houses will burn down and crime will increase. How come Obama, Biden and Reid didn't spend all the first stimulus money on police and firefighters - then there wouldn't be any crime or fires. The reason being is that it's a ridiculous concept. Reid says that the private sector is doing fine and that we need to hire more public sector employees. Almost 6.5 million private sector employees have been laid off compared to 0.5 million public sector employees. A majority of the first stimulus money was for retaining public sector employees. This spending didn't create any new jobs and help to turn the economy around, it just let cities etc. wait another year before they had to make hard fiscal decisions. - A Taxpayer
