On to the State Final

It's 1:15 in the morning on Saturday and two Cheesemaker fans already have commented on the story about Monroe's exciting softball win Friday night in the state semifinals in Madison.

What an incredible winter and spring sports season it's been for Monroe High School.

And before I go to sleep, I wanted to tell our readers what an amazing sports editor we have at the Times in Christopher Heimerman.

Christopher probably went to sleep extremely frustrated tonight, because our coverage plans didn't go as well as we'd hoped. But when it was all over, Christopher came through and got the job done well.

It all began with a late start. Rain earlier in the day pushed everything back, then the first Division 2 semifinal Friday night lasted nine innings. Monroe and Rice Lake didn't start their game until nearly 75 minutes past the scheduled time. That left us with only 2 hours, 15 minutes for a game to be completed, photos to be sent and stories to be written.

Then the dial-up Internet setup on site didn't allow us to send photos as quickly and as often as we had hoped. Because of it, we didn't have as many photos to choose from for the newspaper as we'd like. Christopher had to wait to send most of the photos until the newspaper was done.

Still, we missed our deadline Friday night by just a couple of minutes, a nice recovery given the situation. Nice job, Christopher.

And great job Lady Cheesemakers! Bring home a state title today!
