When high school basketball teams in your coverage area advance to the state tournament, which has become a routine for The Monroe Times, your sports staff doesnt really get any break between the winter and spring sports seasons.
Such is the case this year. Basketball season ended Saturday with Monroes loss in the Division 2 state title game to Wisconsin Lutheran. Track season started the same day. Baseball practices were scheduled to begin yesterday. And one week from today, the Times will publish a 24-page special section previewing the prep spring sports season.
So our sports and photo team will be extremely busy this week getting rosters and schedules, talking to coaches, rounding up photos and putting together a section. Pretty much from the middle of August through May, theres never really time to rest if you work in the sports department.
Thats why I work in news!
