So if our paper is printed in Janesville, how does the work we do in the Monroe office get there to be printed?
Once news pages are finished in Monroe, they are "sent" to Janesville through a shared server and program.
When the newsroom is done with a page - having put all stories, photos and headlines in their proper place and had the page proofed for errors - it is sent to our ad design department, which makes a PDF file out of it and drops it into the shared program.
Once that is completed, first the ad design department and then the newsroom "confirm" the page, having taken one last look to make sure the page is free from major errors and the color separations are correct.
When pages are confirmed by both departments, the folks in Janesville see immediately that the page is done and ready to be plated, and eventually put up on the press.
This all happens very fast.
Our last morning page, the front page of the A section, is to be confirmed by 9:03 a.m. It takes 27 minutes or less for it to get from that point to presses running in Janesville.
