The Major League Baseball All-Star break gives fantasy and rotisserie baseball owners a chance to evaluate their teams at the halfway point.
Im fortunate to be in first place in the CBS fantasy baseball league Im in at midseason by a slim five points. Im one of the lucky owners who is riding the coat tails of St. Louis Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols.
Its not time to push the panic button, but Im weighing trade offers and Im considering tweaking my team, the Cheese Curds.
The biggest move I made in the first half was trading Carl Crawford, who is batting .313 and racked up almost 40 steals for me, for Brewers slugger Ryan Braun.
My pitching staff is loaded with pitching, including Johan Santana, Roy Oswalt, Javier Vazquez, Zack Grienke and Mark Buehrle. I have received a boost with a surprise season thus far from Padres closer Heath Bell along with Diamondbacks closer Cad Qualls.
I have received solid production from my outfield, which includes Matt Kemp, Hunter Pence, Braun and Alex Rios.
The biggest mistake I made was drafting the Cubs Milton Bradley as a DH. At least I didnt pay him $30 million for three years like the Cubs. I have an option B in Travis Hafner.
Hopefully, the infield combination I have of Brandon Phillips at second base and Michael Young at shortstop keeps going strong. My corner infielder is Carlos Pena, so my power numbers with Pujols and Braun should remain strong. Even though I have Braun, Im concerned about holding on to second place in steals in my league. Im considering trading for Chone Figgins, Shane Victorino or Jacoby Ellsbury to assure my steals remain top of the line.
I took a chance and picked up injured starting pitchers Jake Peavy of the Padres and Kevin Slowey of the Twins off the waiver wire. They could provide needed insurance down the stretch, since Im fifth in wins, but just five away from second place in my league.
Now its time to cross my fingers and hope my team has enough left to get over the top in the second half.
Who are your first-half fantasy stars and busts? How are you doing in your fantasy league, and what moves are you looking to make in the second half?
