Fair feedback and pedal pulls

So far, most of the comments Ive heard from this years Green County Fair have been positive. People seemed to like the new midway more, and it looked like it was bigger and better. The weather was reasonably cooperative, though Friday nights rain drenching was a downer.

I survived the celebrity pedal pull, though not without some embarrassment. In what I think all five celebrities thought was the only pull of the day, I was the only one who didnt make the full distance. After struggling to regain any bit of momentum I might have had, and it wasnt much basically I was rocking the tractor back and forth and flailing my feet to try to get moving forward I was, well, asked to call it quits about six feet short.

Then they added another sled and some more weights to the back of the tractor so we could all pull again. You can imagine how I felt about that prospect! It eased some of the pressure when two of the three people who went before me didnt make it all the way. Green County Sheriff Randy Roderick just coasted to the finish line right before me, though.

After my first pull, someone mentioned to me that my short legs put me at a disadvantage. I think they were just trying to make me feel a little better. But I scooted up on the tractor seat for my second run, and it definitely helped. I was able to make the second run to the finish line. Gary Johnson, from WEKZ, also completed his second pull. So the judges decided to have the three of us do another pull with the extra weights to determine a champion. In true charitable form, we all three made complete pulls again, and each of were declared co-champions, for whatever thats worth. But I was definitely the weakest of the three, and the sheriff looked like he could have made those pulls all day long if he wanted to. I was impressed.

We got a free order of cheese curds and a cream puff (or sundae) for our efforts, which was definitely appreciated and absolutely delicious!

So, back to the fair in general. What did you think? What were your favorite things about it? What constructive criticisms would you offer. Keep it positive, please. And keep in mind that fair organizers seized on some comments made last year to initiate changes to this years fair. So your opinion matters! Make your comments below. Thanks.
