BROWNTOWN Some of a reporters job is spent asking questions that ultimately dont lead to a news story. That was the case Monday when I made some calls trying to determine whether there is, indeed, a strip bar in Browntown.
Thats what an anonymous person claimed in a barb submitted (and not printed) in the Times. Without going into too much detail this is a family blog, after all the anonymous barb was to the Trailside Inn in Browntown. I dont believe that a strip joint belongs in a small town, said the writer, identified as a disappointed former patron.
Nothing ever good comes from a strip joint in a small community or a big city, the barb concluded.
I called Dale Hoesly, whos owned Trailside Inn for about seven years.
Im not running a strip joint, he said.
Hoesly said he does allow pole dancing at the bar, and said women have taken off their tops while dancing. He said the women who use the pole for dancing are local customers who arent paid by the bar.
It doesnt happen every Saturday night, he added.
Hoesly also said that hes not at the bar all the time. If bartenders are letting things go on when hes not there, hes not doesnt know about it, he said.
Hoesly said he approached the village board a year ago, and told them he wanted to put a pole in the bar for people to use when they danced. The board told him it didnt have any problem with it, Hoesly said.
Village Board President John Schmitt said there isnt an ordinance against stripping and said the board had no objections to Hoesly putting a pole in the bar.
Schmitt did say the board could revoke Hoeslys liquor license if there are complaints about the bar.
Green County Sheriff Randy Roderick said there have two complaints over the past year, neither dealing with pole dancing at the bar. Both complaints were made anonymously and neither proved to be true, Roderick said.
Roderick said anyone who has a complaint about the bar should contact the sheriffs department.
So theres not a strip club in Browntown or anywhere else in Green County, for that matter, Roderick said but there has been a pole at the Trailside Inn where patrons can and have danced, and some have removed their tops. Certainly interesting information, but not enough to warrant a news story in the paper.
