ALBANY - Sophomore Payton Zurfluh knocked down three 3-pointers and scored a game-high 21 points to power the Albany girls basketball team to a 66-21 nonconference win over Faith Christian on Monday.

Albany (2-13) opened the game with a fullcourt press and built a 40-9 lead at the half.

"Payton is one of our go-to players," Albany coach Adam Wamsley said. "I hope this is a breakout game for her. She played really well. Hopefully, she can build on that and that will help her confidence."

The Comets switched to a 1-3-1 zone after building a big lead with the press.

"We wanted to play that halfcourt zone after we built the lead and have them shoot it from the outside," Wamsley said.

Albany sophomore Libby Beck added 13 points.

Mineral Point 82, Pecatonica 25

BLANCHARDVILLE - Syd Staver scored a team-high 13 points to help the Pointers cruise to a nonconference win over Pecatonica.

Mineral Point, the defending WIAA Division 4 state champions, raced out to a 45-16 lead in the first half.

"The effort was really good," Pecatonica coach Bobby Rose said. "I was proud of the way our girls competed. They (Mineral Point) are an excellent team. I told our young girls this is a really good lesson. This is why we lift weights and work out in the summer."

Pecatonica senior Jess Erickson scored 15 points.

Brodhead 53, Jefferson 37

BRODHEAD - Brodhead lived at the free-throw line and used a big second half run to pull away to upend Jefferson.

Brodhead (6-9) led by six points at the half. The Cardinals outscored Jefferson 28-18 in the second half and shot 48 percent from the free-throw line (15 of 31).

Both Brodhead senior Morgan Cook and junior Erin Nyhus scored a game-high 13 points. Zoe Tresemer chipped in seven points.
