LA CROSSE - Junior Brayden Zettle closed out his first trip to the WIAA Division 2 state track meet with an eighth-place finish in the long jump.

Zettle jumped 20 feet, 4 1/4 inches in the long jump at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse's Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

"When we looked at the seeds coming into the long jump, I thought a good goal for him (Zettle) was to make the finals," Monroe boys track coach Scott Mosher said. "He did that and then he moved up a couple of spots."

Zettle was coming off a fifth-place finish in the triple jump from Friday.

"I think he showed he can jump with the top guys in the state," Mosher said of Zettle.

Zettle now owns the second-longest triple jump in the history of the Monroe boys track program (44-4 1/4). He is on the heels of trying to break Mike Lindeman's triple jump record (45-1).

"When you look at the top jumpers in the state they are all top sprinters," Mosher said. "Brayden is fast, but he doesn't have that same kind of speed in the 100 and 200. He's a really good leaper."
