LA CROSSE — The Gators Swim Team traveled to compete in the Jon Brenner Meet on Saturday, October 25. The meet was hosted by the La Crosse Wave and included swimmers from the YMCA of The Chippewa Valley. The Gators were represented by seven swimmers, all swimming personal bests times and earning points totaling 278 points — the girls team earning 241 points and the boys 37 points.
The top point earners for the Gators were Olivia Hustad (9) with 52 points, Kinsley Huffman (10) with 47 points and Everett Ramirez (9) with 37 points. All three of them swam a YMCA State Qualifying time in an individual event. Olivia Hustad (9) took second place in the Girls 10&U 50 Back with a state qualifying time of (39.00Y).She also took first place in the Girls 9-10 100 Back with a time of (1:26.38Y) and fourth place in the Girls 9-10 100 Free (1:24.12Y). Kinsley Huffman (10) earned second place with her swim in the Girls 9-10 100 Yard Free with a time of (1:16Y), third place in the Girls 9-10 50 Free with a state qualifying time of (33.89Y) and fifth place in the Girls 10&Under 100 IM with a time of (1:34.67Y). Everett Ramirez swam two state qualifying times taking first place in the Boys 9-10 100 Free (1:14.43Y) and second place in the Boys 10& U 50 Back (40.34Y).
Other earners for the Gators included Olive Akins (10) with 37 points with fifth place in the Girls 10&U 50 Fly (50.67Y), seventh place in the Girls 10&U 50 Breast (50.07) and eighth place in the Girls 10&U 100 IM (1:41.14Y). Scarlett Hammon (10) took sixth place in the Girls 10&U 50 Back (44.95Y) and eighth place in both the Girls 9-10 50 Free (41.04Y), and the Girls 9-10 50 Breast (51.21Y). Anneliese Ramirez (13) earned 29 points with fifth place in the Girls 11&O 500 Free (7:26.22Y), eighth in the Girls 13&O 100 Back (1:32.70Y) and 13th in the Girls 13&O 50 Free (33.62Y). Sadie Deal took nine points with her swims in the Girls 11-12 50 Back (57.43Y) and in the Girls 11-12 50 Breast (57.11Y).
The Girls 10&U 100 Yard Medley Relay took third place with a time of 1:21.64. The relay included Olivia Hustad (9) swimming Back, Olive Akins (10) swimming Breast, Kinsley Huffman (10) swimming Fly and Scarlett Hammon (10) swimming Freestyle.
