The Gators Swim Team continued its busy January schedule with a dual meet hosted by the Dodge County Sea Dragons on Jan. 11 followed by a conference meet hosted by the Lake Geneva Ducks on Jan. 18.
The Gators had 22 swimmers attend the Jan. 11 meet at the Dodge County YMCA. The Gators earned a combined score of 1702 points with 21 first place finishes, 25 second place finishes and 20 third place finishes. The Gators also had 25 personal best swims.
On Sunday, Jan. 18 the Gators had 13 swimmers compete at the Lake Geneva conference meet that included Southeastern Aquatics, New Berlin Swim Club and J-Hawks Aquatic Club. This meet was an open mixed meet allowing any swimmer to compete in any event. The women’s team took third place with 240.5 points and the men’s team took fourth place with 56 points with a combined score of 296.5. The Gators had two first place, one second place and four third place finishes and 13 personal best swims.
The Gators will round out January with a home dual meet against the Dubuque Dolphins on Jan. 24 and then travel to Whitewater for an 8 & Under swim meet on Jan. 25. Follow the Gators schedule at gcygators.com.
Gators Swim Into the New Year at Frostbite Meet — Onalaska
The Gators Swim Team kicked off the New Year by attending the Frostbite Invitational meet on Jan. 3-4 in Onalaska. The closed YMCA meet was hosted by the La Crosse Area Family YMCA Swim Team and other participating teams included the YMCA of The Chippewa Valley, Stevens Point Dolphins YMCA and Marshfield Area YMCA. Gators had 15 swimmers who earned a combined score of 535.5 with the men’s team earning 208 and the women’s team earning 327.5 over the two day competition.
High point swimmers for the weekend included Everett Ramirez (9) earning 101 points with first place finishes in the Boys 10 & Under 200 Free (2:37.47Y), the Boys 10 & Under 100 Free (1:12.32Y) Boys 9-10 50 Free (34.49Y), second place in the Boys 10 & Under 100 IM (1:29.99Y), sixth place in the the Boys 9-10 50 Back (41.29Y) and eighth place in the Boys 9-10 50 Breast (49.41Y). Barrett Berg (13) earning 94 points with first place finishes in the Boys 13-14 50 Free (23.80Y), the Boys 13-14 50 Fly (28.25Y) and the Boys 11 & Over 500 Free (5:23.84Y) and second place finishes in the Boys 13-14 100 Free (52.71Y) and the Boys 13-14 50 Breast (33.31Y). Olivia Hustad (10) earned 77 points with a second place finish in the Girls 10 & Under 100 Back (1:24.74Y), third place in the Girls 10 & Under 200 Free (2:49.62Y) fifth place in the Girls 9-10 50 Back (38.83Y), seventh place in the Girls 10 & Under 100 Free (1:18.79Y) and ninth place finishes in Girls 10 & Under 100 IM (1:35.26Y) and the Girls 9-10 50 Fly (45.20Y). Olive Akins (10) earned 56 points with third place finish in the Girls 9-10 500 Free (8:21.68Y), sixth place in the Girls 9-10 50 Breast (47.96Y), seventh in the Girls 10 & Under 100 Breast (1:48.06Y), 11th place in the Girls 9-10 50 Free (38.88Y) and 13th in the Girls 10 & Under 100 IM (1:39.72Y). Scarlett Hammon (10) earned 30 points with fifth place in the Girls 10 & Under 100 Breast (1:42.66Y) and seventh in the Girls 9-10 50 Breast (48.37Y), 14th in the Girls 10 & Under 100 IM (1:41.13Y) and 16th place in the Girls 9-10 50 Free (40.95Y).
Other point earners for the Gators included Stella Rolli (12) with 29 points with third place in the Girls 11 & Over 100 Fly (1:36.25Y) and sixth place in the Girls 11 & Over 100 Breast (1:42.00Y). Lauren Kosmosky (12) earned 20 points with fifth place in the Girls 11 & Over 100 Breast (1:36.28Y), eight place in the Girls 11 & Over 50 Free (29.96Y) and 11th place in the Girls 11 & Over 100 Free (1:08.37Y). Sadie Deal (11) earned 17 points with sixth place in the Girls 11 & Over 200 IM (3:48.43Y) and 13th in the Girls 11-12 50 Breast (54.87Y). Georgia Christen (12) earned 15 points with 11th place finishes in the Girls 11 & Over 100 Back (1:47.17Y), Girls 11 & Over 200 Free (3:17.71Y), 14th place in the Girls 11-12 50 Fly (51.14Y). Charlotte Stuessy (11) earned 12.5 points with 10th place in the Girls 11 & Over 100 Back (1:40.90Y), 13th in the Girls 11-12 50 Fly (50.04Y), and 15th in the Girls 11-12 50 Back (47.01Y). Quintin Soddy (11) earned 11 points with a 10th place finish in the Boys 11-12 50 Breast (1:04.03Y) and 13th in the Boys 11-12 50 Back (55.80Y). Ara Schmidt (14) earned nine points with a ninth place finish in the Girls 11 & Over 100 Breast (1:36.02Y). Avery Mansfield (9) earned six points with 12th place in the Girls 10 & Under 100 Free (1:32.05Y) and 16th place in the Girls 9-10 50 Back (45.25Y). Cullin Soddy (9) earned two points with a 15th place in the Boys 9-10 50 Free (55.44Y).
The Gators Girls 10 & Under relay team took fifth place in both the 200 Free Relay (2:34.84Y) and the 200 Medley Relay (2:55.39Y). Each swim earned 28 points. The Free relay included Scarlett Hammon (10), Avery Mansfield (9), Olive Akins (10) and Olivia Hustad (10). The Medley relay included Olivia Hustad (10) swimming Backstroke, Olive Akins (10) swimming Breaststroke, Scarlett Hammon (10) swimming Butterfly and Avery Mansfield (9) swimming Freestyle.
