CLINTON - A quartet of Cardinals is taking its family band to sectionals after Saturday's WIAA Division 2 Regional at Clinton.
While Brodhead-Juda placed just fourth as a squad, Tyler Lincoln (135 pounds), Ryan McCarville (152) and Danny Douglas (171) all won their divisions, while senior 130-pounder Jake Covert joined the club with a runner-up finish by pinning Dane Brandl of Clinton after being pinned himself in the championship match.
McCarville's berth came in heart-stopping fashion as he survived with an 8-6 overtime decision over Clay McCullough of Big Foot-Williams Bay.

For 155 seconds, Albany junior Nick Patchen simply appeared to be routinely starting his morning and a run at a WIAA Division 2 Regional title.
But in a split second, Portage's Scott Gessner countered from Patchen's seemingly-steady grip and nearly pinned the Blue Devil grappler immediately.
While Patchen wriggled away momentarily, Gessner regained his position, this time flattening his opponent with his entire body to achieve a pin at 3 minutes, 12 seconds.
Patchen, the lone Albany student on the Blue Devils squad, can take solace in six of his teammates heading to sectionals as the club placed second behind Division 2 juggernaut Lodi.

While four Darlington Redbirds will head to the Division 3 Mineral Point Sectional next, Dusty Weber made sure Jake Kaempfer would have help representing Warrior nation next weekend.
The 112-pound Black Hawk grappler pinned Andy Mindham of Boscobel in just 85 seconds at Saturday's Division 3 Lancaster Regional in their second-place match to earn a sectional berth.
Kaempfer, meanwhile, won his 160-pound ladder with relative ease, earning a semifinal technical fall and a first-place major decision.
Devin Malott won the only individual title for Darlington at 103 pounds in convincing fashion with a 38-second pin of Mineral Point's Garrett Smart. Isaiah Goebel (125), Dylan McGuire (145) and Logan Taylor (215) all took second place in their ladders.

Mike Pittz is king of his 215-pound castle and he's made sure to keep a room for Chris James and Casey Krahenbuhl.
Pittz won his division at Saturday's Division 3 Cambridge Regional by the slimmest of margins with a 6-5 edging of Marshall's Caleb Schluster.
James, a 112-pounder, and the 130-pound Krahenbuhl both won by rule over in their second-place matchups after falling to their divisions' ultimate champions.
The trio of Vikings will join the friendly rivals from Black Hawk and the Darlington group as they head to Mineral Point for this Saturday's sectional meet.
