ALBANY - It didn't take Albany junior Sydnee Woyak and her teammates long to break out of a shooting slump Monday.

Woyak scored a game-high 14 points and drilled two 3-pointers to propel the Comets to a 36-25 non-conference win over Palmyra-Eagle. Albany (3-9, 2-2 Six Rivers East) outscored the Panthers 19-4 in the second quarter to take a 14-point halftime lead. The Comets made 7 of 8 shots in the second quarter.

"Coming into the game we had been in a shooting slump the last two games," Albany coach Adam Wamsley said. "I told them coming in the shots would fall and they started to do that. Just hitting shots was the key. It made everything easier. I was very happy with our offensive production in the second quarter."

Woyak's outside shooting was a spark for the Comets.

"We don't have that one 15-point scorer," Wamsley said. "When she (Woyak) can hit the outside shots, it just opens things up more."

Albany juniors Marley Malkow and Melissa Shunk each added eight points. Albany will host Argyle in a Six Rivers East Conference game Friday.

The Black Hawk girls basketball team's game at Edgerton was postponed. The game is rescheduled for Monday, Jan. 12.
