SOUTH WAYNE - Despite a plethora of turnovers, the Black Hawk High School boys basketball team rallied to take a lead late in Tuesday's game before getting stung by bad luck and lost to Williams Bay 52-51 in a WIAA Division 5 regional quarterfinal.

Trailing 48-41 with about five minutes to play, Black Hawk came back to edge ahead 51-50 with about 1 minute, 30 seconds left.

Junior Josh Meier went up for a layup with about a minute left, missed it and rolled his ankle when he landed. Williams Bay took advantage of the 5-on-4 fast break, and Avery Lettenberger scored on a layup to give the Bulldogs a 52-51 lead.

Coach Charlie Anderson said the Warriors had two good looks in the final minute, including an 8-foot jumper at the buzzer, but couldn't score.

"The story of the game was turnovers," Anderson said. "We turned the ball over too many times. We had 26 turnovers. That is uncharacteristic of us, especially the way we have been playing lately.

"But I am proud of the way we fought back."

Meier paced the Warriors (11-12) with 16 points, including one 3-pointer. Freshman Conner Meyer added 12 points, and senior Chase Stietz and sophomore C.J. Leuzinger each had 10 points. Stietz hit three 3-pointers.

Argyle 71, Johnson Creek 38

ARGYLE - Senior Kyle Emberson scored a game-high 22 points to lead Argyle past Johnson Creek in a Division 5 regional quarterfinal.

"In the first half, I wasn't really happy with how we played," Argyle coach Justin Jenson said. "We were settling for too many 3-pointers."

Argyle (15-8) limited Johnson Creek to 13 points in the second half.

"In the second half, we picked it up," Jenson said. "We played an all-around better game in the second half.

Emberson hit a team-high four 3-pointers.

"He's our emotional leader," Jenson said of Emberson. "As long as he continues to perform at this level there is no knowing where we will end up."
