MADISON - Belleville completed a season sweep of the New Glarus girls basketball team after beating the Glarner Knights 44-40 in the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Holiday Classic Tuesday at the UW Fieldhouse.

Belleville senior Riley Kahl, who scored a game-high 13 points, hit a clutch 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter that helped propel the Wildcats to their sixth straight win and second straight over the Knights in the last 11 days. With the win, Belleville improves to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the Capitol South.

The Wildcats' defense held the Knights to just two points for 6 minutes, 30 seconds in the fourth quarter. New Glarus senior Ryan Bright scored eight of his 12 points in the third quarter as the Knights outscored the Wildcats 10-7 and took a 31-29 lead into the fourth quarter.

"We just couldn't find him any more," New Glarus coach Travis Sysko said of Bright. "In a tight game and in a defensive battle, you can't have that kind of a scoring drought that late in the game and expect to win."

Early on, both the Knights and Wildcats played a back and forth game. New Glarus (7-2, 1-2) went on a 7-2 run in the second quarter, but the Wildcats answered. Kahl drained a 3-pointer and senior Dylan Schulz drilled a running 3-pointer just a few steps inside halfcourt to give the Wildcats a 22-21 halftime lead.

Schulz and Colton Crye each scored nine points for the Wildcats. New Glarus seniors Cameron Jeglum and Nick Stuessy scored nine and eight points, respectively. New Glarus sophomore Tyler Kreklow chipped in seven.
