REEDSBURG - Monroe senior Gavin Wels reached the pinnacle of wrestling, notching his 100th career win Saturday at the Reedsburg dual Invitational.

Wels finished second, losing in the title match to Reedsburg's Blake Koch, 10-7.

"That is a huge and major accomplishment for any wrestler," Monroe coach Jeriamy Jackson said.

The Cheesemakers finished 1-4 in dual meet matches Saturday.

"We gave up 36 points per dual," Jackson said of the forefits.

The Cheesemakers wrestled in eight of the 14 weight classes and crowned a champion, with junior Dillon Weckerly at 171 going 5-0, including four pins.

"He wrestled fantastic," Jackson said. "He did everything right today."

Monroe senior Michael Ingold at 189 went 4-1 and had three pins, against Westby's Garrett Johnson in 2 minutes, 56 seconds, Racine Horlick's Howard Johnson in 1:04 and Reedsburg's Colton Brott in 34 seconds. The only loss Ingold had was to Lancaster's Trevor Landon by a pin in 54 seconds.

Monroe senior heavyweight Lucas Leu went 4-1, including pins over Reedsburg's Cody Schute (3:16), Lancaster's Ryan VanDehey (53 seconds) and Madison West's Nathan Hefferran (1:34).

"He (Leu) showed a little bit of tenacity and threw his weight around," Jackson said. "He was the one who took control of the matches."
