Warriors slip by Vikings

BLANCHARDVILLE - The Black Hawk High School volleyball team lost two of the first three sets, but rallied to defeat Pecatonica in a Six Rivers East Conference showdown.

Behind senior Aleigha Sigafus, Black Hawk knocked off Pecatonica in a nail-biter 25-17, 23-25, 18-25, 25-12, 15-11 Thursday night.

Sigafus had a match-high 14 kills and four aces.

Black Hawk has a 5-2 conference record.

"It's disheartening," Pecatonica coach Tori Leonard said. "Black Hawk is a good team. It's our second time playing them, and we were hoping to pull out a win the second time around. After the third set, I feel like when we got down we were not able to overcome that and come back like we have done so many times this year."

Black Hawk senior Kayla Sigafus had six blocks, and Brooke Moore had 13 assists.

"They (Black Hawk) got on a roll serving, and we made some mistakes," Leonard said of the fourth set. "We didn't get back into the groove."

Pecatonica junior Liz Tisch had a team-high eight kills, put up 20 assists and posted 18 digs.

Pecatonica senior Clara Moen had 17 digs, and senior teammate Britt Miller had four blocks.

With the loss, Pecatonica drops to 8-4, 4-3 Six Rivers East.



Monticello 3, Albany 1

ALBANY - Monticello junior Bri Graber helped the Ponies start off the second half of the Six Rivers Conference season with a bang.

Graber posted a team-high 11 kills to propel Monticello to a 25-16, 25-12, 21-25, 25-10 win over Albany.

"It's good to start the second half of the season on the right foot," Monticello coach Scott Smice said. I asked the girls what their goal was for the second half of the conference and they said they at least want to be. 500."

Monticello junior Megan Lehr had eight kills and seven aces. Junior teammate Jessie Garrsion racked up 31 assists and Chandler Hansen had four aces. Sophomore Alya Hummel and junior Brittany Disch each notched three blocks.

Albany was led by Hailey Stefanik who had a team-best eight kills. Sayde McDermott posted three blocks and had two aces. Albany's Taylor Seffrood had 15 assists.



JUDA 3, ABUNDANT LIFE 0

JUDA - The Panthers swept the Challengers 25-22, 25-20, 25-17 in a nonconference match.

"Abundant Life found really hard but when we needed to toughen down and make a good pass, we did," Juda coach Scott Anderson said.

Sara Jordan and Chelsea Burkhalter each had five kills to lead Juda. Hailey Kammerer had five aces and three blocks.

MacKenzie Byrne had six assists.
