PORTAGE - Black Hawk's Jace Johnsrud ran for 178 yards and two scores as the Warriors knocked off Rio 35-7 in the opening round of the WIAA Division 7 playoffs.
After a Mike Walker 4-yard score, Johnsrud dashed 80 yards in the second quarter to put Black Hawk up 14-0. Rio scored just two minutes later, but Walker added another score with 3:21 left in the half to give his team a 21-7 lead at halftime.
Walker added a 1-yard run in the third and Johnsrud scampered in from 19 yards in the fourth.
Black Hawk ran for 394 yards overall, and Kyle Walters was 4 for 10 for 58 yards passing.
The Warriors move on to face Burlington Catholic Central in the second round. Burlington, which upset top-seeded Randolph, will host the game.
