Warriors oust Ponies

SOUTH WAYNE - Black Hawk senior Aleigha Sigafus had a team-high 15 kills to help the Warriors volleyball team roll to a sweep of Monticello in a WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinal match Tuesday.

The Warriors defeated the Ponies for the third time this season 25-20, 25-13, 26-24.

"Monticello came to play," Black Hawk coach Rachel Wolff said. "They were pumped up. Our girls had enough to stay focused to finish it out."

Black Hawk (9-6) advances to play at second-seeded Argyle in a regional semifinal Thursday.

"Argyle took two from us in conference during the regular season," Wolff said. "We will come in there and give them the best game we can."

Black Hawk senior Brooke Moore dished out 14 assists and notched six aces against Monticello. Teammate Elizabeth Holland posted two blocks.

The Ponies led 23-19 in the final set but couldn't force a Game 4.

"There was some resiliency from the kids, and we came back to tie it," Wolff said.

Monticello junior Megan Lehr had a team-best five kills and three aces. Junior teammate Jessie Garrison had 18 assists and junior Brittany Disch posted three blocks. Monticello's Chandler Hansen had a team-high 22 digs.



Pecatonica 3, Cassville 0

BLANCHARDVILLE - Pecatonica senior Britt Miller racked up 10 kills, five aces and three blocks to lead the Vikings to a sweep of Cassville in a Division 4 regional quarterfinal.

Pecatonica (12-6) pulled out 25-19 and 25-22 wins in the first two sets. The Vikings came back from a six-point deficit to top the Comets in the final set 25-18. With the Vikings trailing 16-10 in the final set, senior Clara Moen served six straight service points to tie the game at 16.

"That got us back in the game, and we got the momentum going," Pecatonica coach Tori Leonard said.

Pecatonica jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first set and cruised from there.

"We have had a couple of incidents during the regular season where we have been up seven points and weren't able to hang on," Leonard said. "It was nice to see us win that one."

Pecatonica junior Liz Tisch racked up 24 assists and had a team-best 16 digs.

Pecatonica will play at top-seeded Southwestern Thursday. Southwestern was a state qualifier last year.

"They will be tough and are a good team," Leonard said. "I think the girls like the competition and will rise to the occasion."



Argyle 3,

Faith Christian 0

ARGYLE - Six Rivers East Conference champion Argyle wasted no time rolling over Faith Christian in a Division 4 regional quarterfinal.

Argyle sophomore Ashley Breuhlman had a team-high nine kills and one block. Junior teammate Kayla Butler-Paulson dished out 22 assists and had eight aces. Argyle sophomore Morgan Nelson had a team-best five digs.

"They played very well and played at their level," Argyle coach Jen Butler said. "They played their game. Hopefully, we can keep the momentum going into Thursday night."



WILLIAMS BAY 3, JUDA 1

WILLIAMS BAY - The Panthers were knocked out of the WIAA tournament with a 25-22, 25-22, 19-25, 25-16 tough loss to the Bulldogs in

a Division 4 regional quarterfinal.

"They found some breaks, and we didn't," Juda coach Scott Anderson said of the first two sets. "They had a couple of girls who hit the ball harder than we do."

Chelsea Burkhalter led Juda with eight kills and 16 digs. Sara Jordan added seven kills, Megan Powers had 12 assists, and Hailey Kammerer had three aces.

Juda finishes its season at 12-9.

"I'm proud of them," Anderson said. "They left it all on the floor. We had a good season."



Brodhead 3, Belleville 0

BRODHEAD - Senior Kylie Moe had nine kills and 15 digs to power the Cardinals to a 25-17, 25-16, 25-10 win over Belleville in a WIAA regional quarterfinal match.

"We had a little slower start than I had hoped for," Brodhead coach Erin Kammerer said. "To be able to take it in three in a playoff round is pretty satisfying."

Brodhead (22-11) advances to host Mineral Point in a regional semifinal Thursday.

Brodhead freshman Abbey Johnson racked up 33 assists and had a team-high seven aces. Senior Amber Pickel had nine kills and three blocks. Teammate Blake Boegli added 12 digs.



In other matches, fourth-seeded New Glarus ousted Parkview 27-25, 25-17, 25-20, and third-seeded Mineral Point swept sixth-seeded Darlington 25-20, 25-13, 25-18. Top-seeded Catholic Central swept Albany 25-9, 25-9, 25-7.
