MONTICELLO - The Black Hawk Warriors are one win away from completing their third straight undefeated conference season after downing the Monticello Ponies 25-15, 25-8, 25-12, Tuesday.
Kim Wellnitz, Melissa Wellnitz, Katie Place and Rachel Rygh combined for 24 kills to lead the Warriors to their 35th consecutive conference win. Junior Alyssa Piefer added 13 assists and senior Savanna Kaster had five assists, while Kim Wellnitz provided four aces for Black Hawk.
Monticello was led by senior Haley Blum with five kills and junior Taylor Klitzke with four. Senior Sadi Hilliard chipped in with 15 digs and two kills.
The Ponies concluded their regular season with a record of 4-8 in the Six Rivers East and will be seeded sixth in the WIAA Division 4 regionals that begin on Tuesday Oct. 20th.
They will face the Black Hawk Warriors who are seeded 3rd.
The Warriors (11-0) close out the regular season at Juda on Thursday.
Albany 3, Argyle 0
ALBANY - Sydney Bump came up big both offensively and defensively for the Comets in a 25-18, 25-21, 25-20, victory over the Argyle Orioles, Tuesday.
The junior had 14 kills, 15 digs, and three blocks to lead the Comets to their ninth win against just two losses in Six Rivers East conference action. Junior Courtney Pfueti also starred offensively for the Comets with 20 assists. Junior Kaitlyn Schulz (16 digs) and junior Hillary Best (15 digs) played a major role on defense for Albany.
Argyle was led by senior Jackie Dammen and junior Kelsey Bartels with four kills each and sophomore Abby Flanagan with two blocks. Senior Stephanie Cuevas added 11 assists and sophomore Micala Peterson dropped in four aces and 11 digs for the Orioles.
Albany closes out the regular season Thursday at home against Barneveld while Argyle travels to Pecatonica for their final regular season match.
Pecatonica 3, Juda 1
JUDA - The Pecatonica Vikings defeated the Juda Panthers 25-20, 25-23, 23-25, 25-17, behind senior Cassie Swenson's 12 kills and five digs.
The Vikings also got contributions from senior Karley Bahr with three kills and five aces, junior Ellie Gifford with 16 assists, and senior Elizabeth Ihm with five blocks.
Junior Aly Pierce paced the Panthers with 10 assists, 17 service points, and three aces. Senior Erika Kundert led the Panthers in kills with eight.
Juda (3-8 in the Six Rivers East) will host Black Hawk while Pecatonica hosts Argyle Thursday to close out the regular season.
Darlington 3, Mineral Point 1
DARLINGTON - The Darlington Redbirds captured their first win of the season Tuesday by topping the Mineral Point Pointers 18-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-21, in SWAL conference action.
Senior Whitney Hardyman led the attack for the Redbids with 11 kills and junior Chayse Hermanson had 14 assists for Darlington (1-10).
The Redbirds' next match is Thursday when they finish the regular season at home against conference front-runner Cuba City.
Brodhead 3, Palmyra-Eagle 0
PALMYRA - Senior Dana Lewis hammered 11 kills to go with five aces and two blocks, lifting the Brodhead Cardinals to a 25-15, 25-23, 25-18 win over Palmyra-Eagle in Rock Valley South conference action, Tuesday.
Senior Amanda Johnson collected 10 digs and senior Megan Heller delivered 15 assists for Brodhead (2-4).
The Cardinals will participate in the Rock Valley Conference tournament at East Troy Saturday before heading into the WIAA Regionals beginning Tuesday Oct. 20.
Belleville 3, New Glarus 1
NEW GLARUS - After dropping the first two games, 25-15, and, 25-18, the Glarner Knights avoided a sweep by winning game three, 25-12. But the Belleville Wildcats powered past New Glarus, 25-11, in game four to win the match, Tuesday.
Senior Tanya Gruter was the match leader in kills with 14 and senior Natalie Morgan had eight assists to lead the Glarner Knights.
New Glarus travels to Waterloo Thursday for the final Capitol Conference South match of the regular season.
