SOUTH WAYNE - Six Rivers East Conference champion Black Hawk took the first step in making a run at a second-straight state tournament appearance with a dominating 73-17 win over winless Benton Tuesday.
Black Hawk, ranked third in Division 4 and the top seed in the Darlington regional, blasted off to a 45-9 lead at halftime and won their 21st-straight game.
"The girls all contributed and did a good job," Warriors head coach Mike Flanagan said.
The eighth-seeded Zephyrs ended their season 0-20.
Senior Kim Wellnitz scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while junior Melissa Wellnitz scored 17 points and added four steals to lead the way for the Warriors (22-1).
"It was good to get Kim back on the floor, she missed our last game against Monticello," Flanagan said.
Black Hawk will host Pecatonica in a regional semifinal Thursday. It will be the fourth-straight year the two teams will have met in the playoffs.
"We will have to do what we have to do. We will have to do the things we've done against them so far this year," Flanagan said. "We will have to try to take away what they do best."
Pecatonica 61, Shullsburg 39
SHULLSBURG - University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee recruit Kimee Chandler scored 21 of her game-high 28 points in the second half as fifth-seeded Pecatonica knocked off fourth-seeded Shullsburg, 61-39, in a Division 4 regional quarterfinal Tuesday.
Chandler, who was held scoreless in the first quarter, connected on five of six 3-pointers in the second half and pulled down nine rebounds and dished out eight assists while the Vikings held the Miners to just two points in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
Pecatonica led by as much as five in the first half, but Shullsburg tied the game at 30-30 in the third quarter. From there, the Vikings outscored the Miners 31-9.
Junior Alisha Esselstein added 11 points and senior Megan Rindy scored 10 points for Pecatonica (10-13). The Vikings hit nine 3s in the contest.
Blaire Lutes scored 13 points for Shullsburg (13-10).
Southwestern 44, Argyle 25
HAZEL GREEN - Sophomore Katelyn Hoppman scored 17 points to lead third-seeded Southwestern past sixth-seeded Argyle, 44-25, Tuesday.
The Orioles scored just two points in the first quarter but only trailed 17-12 at halftime. The Wildcats held Argyle to just 13 points in the second half to pull away for the win.
The Orioles were led by sophomore Danielle Treuthardt with seven points and senior Jackie Dammen with six points.
Argyle ends its season at 2-19. Southwestern (12-11) will face Barneveld in a Division 4 regional semifinal Thursday.
