SOUTH WAYNE - It took a few innings, but Argyle found a way to break through and knock off Black Hawk in a Six Rivers East game Tuesday, 6-4.
The Warriors scored two runs in the first inning to take the lead after a couple of walks and an error. Argyle struck for three runs in the top of the third, only for Black Hawk to tie it at 3 in the bottom half of the inning.
A two-run fourth was the difference.
Both teams collected seven hits and Argyle was tagged for two errors to Black Hawk's one.
B.J. Penniston and Brent Ritschard each had two hits for Argyle. Brody Milz had two hits for Black Hawk.
Clay Ritschard had three RBIs at the dish for the Orioles and came on in relief, tossing three innings and striking out three. Jakob Ploessl started the game on the mound for Argyle and got the win, pitching four innings.
Black Hawk started pitcher Nic Whitcomb, who finished with two strikeouts.
New Glarus 6, Pecatonica 5
BLANCHARDVILLE - The Glarner Knights held off a late rally by the Vikings to escape with a non-conference win Tuesday.
New Glarus went into the seventh inning with a 6-1 lead, but three errors and a hit by Pecatonica led to four runs. The game ended with the
potential tying run at the plate.
"We had one bad inning in the fourth," Pecatonica coach Jim Strommen said.
New Glarus tied the game at 1-1 in the second inning and added two runs in the third and three more in the fourth to take a commanding lead.
Noah Zimmerman and Holden Latsch each had two hits at the plate with a double and an RBI for the Knights, and Matthew Jackson was 2-for-3.
Andrew Nimtz grabbed the win on the hill for the Knights, tossing three innings and allowing one run on two hits, a walk and three strikeouts. Joshua Gray pitched three scoreless innings of relief, shutting down Pecatonica's offense even further, allowing just two walks and no hits while striking out four.
"Great pitched really well in relief and kept us at bay," Strommen said.
Zach Frick pitched the seventh for New Glarus.
Lane Busser took the loss on the hill for Pecatonica, allowing six runs in 3 1/3 innings on seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Everett Johnson pitched in relief for the Vikings, throwing a scoreless 3 2/3 innings and giving up just one hit and a hit batter with three strikeouts.
"Everett kept us in the game," Strommen said.
Pecatonica (5-3) takes on Cassville Friday in a Six Rivers crossover doubleheader. New Glarus hosts Waterloo Thursday.
Edgerton 12, Brodhead-Juda 1
BRODHEAD - Edgerton's Daniel Zeimet went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI to power the Crimson Tide to a win over the Cardinals in five innings.
Brodhead-Juda scored one run in the first inning to take an early lead. Edgerton came back with a two-run second. The Crimson Tide sealed the victory with an eight-run fifth. Edgerton out-hit Brodhead-Juda 11-6. The Cardinals were plagued by five errors.
Brodhead-Juda's Chase Harnack went 1-for-1 and one walk. Andrew Brockwell drove in the Cardinals only run in the first.
The Cardinals used three pitchers. Brockwell pitched two innings and gave up two runs on two hits. Marco Bueno also pitched two innings for the Cardinals and gave up two runs on five hits, while striking out two and walking one.
